Re: "No phone calls please!"

Ok, so you as the CP just got 600 e-mailed resumes for a job. How do "I" stand out from the crowd? Out of the 600 applicants there are probably 60 that qualify for the job. I very much doubt anyone will spend the time to go through the 600 to find the 60 so... calling to introduce yourself at least ...

Re: Throw in the towel..yes? No?

Ok enough of this already, if you need to come to a forum to have people advise you on your future and your career that means you have not control or decision making abilities. If you cant manage your own life or career then perhaps flying is not something you should continue doing for a living. No...

Re: What would you do? (Class 4 renewal)

I think... (at it hurts when I do) that the industry is going to pick up again in 2011. There is lots of hiring in the US... hopefully the Americans finally go back south and make more room up North :D Plus oil just hit a 2 year high so Canada might start moving as well. With that in mind there are ...

Re: Buying a PA30

Looking into buying a Piper Twin Commanche for use as a Multi IFR trainer. Does anyone have any tips on important things to look for specific to this make and model? Any horror stories? Most seem to be fairly priced, low time with old avionics. Mods - Please feel free to move to a more appropriate ...

Re: Researching a CPL.

I researched. I had a nice talk with the CFI at the flight school. He told me ALL ABOUT the shortage of pilots in Canada. He had photocopies of news articles and everything. "10,000 Pilots Needed By The Year ____." Then he handed me the pen to sign up. Lesson: To research; talk to the experts, not ...

Re: Advice to wannabe CPL's pursuing flight training

2) As you get towards the end of your PPL you should be getting an idea of what kind of flying interests you (eg, instructing, float, IFR). Use every available means of research to get a good impression of the realities of the choices. Talk to as many different pilots you can find to get a range of...

Maybe in the US... I doubt there's a need for that with all of our 8 "major" airports spread apart by thousands of miles

Save your cash. Winter is a slow time for flight schools out west. Even if you get a job you're not going to fly much. IMHO

Might want to be careful about that... there's a school I know of that went all digital until they started submitting them to TC. Unlike handwritten logs, the digital versions can easily be modified. The school in question had issues and hoops to jump through... just throwing it out there...

Re: Calculating Time before Inspection

Maintenance is based on AIR time. The 50/100/200 is for commercial ops. Legally... if it's a private aircraft you're only required to do one 100 hour inspection a year (Annual) Just wondering how you calculate time before inspection, is it something like time until 100 hour or 50 hour inspection-tot...

Re: Where's the best flight training school in Calgary?

I think you have it a bit backwards when it comes to Calgary. If you want to finish an instructor rating while still in the hiring season you're not really looking for a quality school vs. a school with a class 1 who will be available to take you on. My initial statement stands, it's not the school,...

Re: Where's the best flight training school in Calgary?

Best training school is a relative term... what do you want/expect/need. You can have the best school/instructor in the world but if you can only get to fly twice a month you're not going to progress very far. Likewise, you can have availability 24/7 but if YOUR instructor doesn't "click" with you, ...

Re: JAA

Keep it in perspective. JAA kids get to sit right seat in jets, Canadian CPL's get to sit right seat in a Navajo. There are those who learn by reading, others learn by doing. Who's to say which way is better than the other? This subject has been beat to death numerous times but I stress again; do yo...
