Re: Allowing a Passenger to Take the Controls
Okay show of hands from those who on their first flight ever were able to take the controls in straight and level flight and give em a bit of a wiggle. Usually in a 172 or 152, cub, or whatever. Seriously. Did you EVER think there was something wrong with that or that it was dangerous when the pilot...

Wasnt Calm Air, but after a particularly smokey startup on a -30 day in Frobisher I asked the crew of the FA Hawker if they needed me to call the fire-department.

Re: Gotta watch those fabric turboprops
Im glad this one turned out ok. Early in my career I was offered a right seat in the D228 with Ministic Airlines out of YWG. I turned it down because I couldnt get past the fabric wing/tail design of this aircraft. I was just talking to Summit`s Ops Mgr 6 weeks ago about this exact senario and if t...

Great thread, would read again. Seen a DHC5 do that on a humid day in CYFB during take off, the props had mad vapour trails coming off them.

My all time favorite is the Bell 212S. What a bird.
My second has to be the BSTP 214 because "That is the sound of freedom" my friends.

I love seeing what technology brings to the game. The features of the arc horizon flight deck "seem" pretty intuitive, and to me feel like they belong on a new piece of kit.

Re: Canada looking at building military bases in Arctic
I can agree with the hub strategy. Only speaking for Iqaluit, C-130's and C-17s fly in supplies, troops, and perform search and rescue ops (C-130's) on a semi-routine basis. Why not use the larger and existing facilities such as Iqaluit, Rankin, Yellowknife (and potentially Inuvik) to support movem...

PZ04 Wilga is a stupid looking plane, IMO and from what I have witnessed, incredibly awkward to fly (and land):

I miss CFIBN up here in CYFB, it was good to me, but the B214 they replaced it with just sounds so damned sweet that it's hard to be mad about it at all.

Re: 126.7 FSS
According to the RCO redesign chart, 126.7 is still available in most of Ontario, however I can state that I often have problems raising them. I was just north of Wiarton last week and tried for a few minutes on 126.7. Quick check of the CFS showed the 123.375 frequency, which worked, however not a...

Re: HELP FIND AVIATION LAWYER DEALING WITH UAV FLIGHTS - CAN
IMO it shouldn't be THAT complicated for a person to get the necessary a) Insurance and b) Special Flight Operations Certificate SFOC required to make a commercial UAV flight in Canada. UAVs have a specific definition according to Transport Canada and as such, though preliminary, there are outlines ...

Actually it wasn't asked by the OP - it was a secondary Q - maybe the reading comprehension needs some work? I think "Grimey" summed it up "mickey mouse"??? An employment medical, even if done by a CAME, is still just an employment medical. My Class one also needs a medical - probably more stringen...

I always chuckle when someone pronounces the "TIBEG" fix for the ILS DME RWY 35 in CYFB as "Teabag". AFAIK it's pronounced Tie-Beg.

Bets anyone on the year the last standing ILS will be decommissioned in favor/monopoly of a GPS aviation world? Westjet has basically proven through the development of their own RNP approaches that there is operational and safety advantages. I'm inclined to say early-mid 2020. At the rate our techn...

Re: Military ATC training with NavCanada
DND leases space from Nav Canada. It is the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Control Operations (CFSACO). I am 99% sure that all training is done by the forces (I'm saying this because I knew a military controller who taught the VFR course and also was a course director). Not that I asked her sp...
