Re: Canadian north to buy first air
With the increased competition from the bigger airlines, a merger might be a good thing. However, I've been through two mergers including the Air Canada and Canadian Airline, and one group of employees always win and the other group suffers (gets laid off, etc).

Re: maintenance signoff; when
I say when the work has ended. The paperwork should be done right after.cold_start wrote:What are the rules (if any) regarding the signoff on maintenance work. is the signoff dated when the work started, when it ended, or when the paperwork was done?
Thanks,

Re: Contractors Association
I like it. I am finding it hard to get overseas work, which is what I really like to do. Even have a Canadian and an European passport doesn't seem to help.

Agreed on the lockwire, I think that is worse then the tie wraps, considering I've puchered myself with the lockwire ends.

Re: Cable Tie Gun
I find the cable guns make the tie wraps too tight for the next guy that has to remove them again. Flush cutters is what I use personnally. Though the shark fins, as I call them, are a treat when they cut up your arms to shread.

Like any job, you got the good guys, and the bad.... YWG the guys are generally good with a few bad apples, but that's to be expected. I use to work the Jet Blue line (line 4), and I think that was the best line there. Not sure if Jet Blue are still around... My crew there was top notch, though. Tha...

Re: Got a job at Air Canada Jazz
Hey good luck with Jazz. I heard they treat their employees better then Air Canada. I know tonnes of guys from Air Canada that made the switch and they seem happy. Less pay I think, but money isn't everything if you got a good place to work at.

Hi, I used to work at Avios, the BS got to me after awhile and I quit. I just heard a rumour, and it's just a rumour, that they are moving all the Air Canada employees to Avios in June, and that there maybe a lay off in Spetember. Any truth in that? As for the work environment, it was pretty bad whe...

I made $32.50ish as top ACA Avionics at AC but now $35/hr plus $50/day per diem with flights, accomodation liability and WCB paid for. Just turned down $39/hr but with no flights, per diems or accomodations and I have turned down $37/hr no per diem, WCB, liability, but with accomodation and flight. ...

Man if that was true do you think that they would be posting jobs all the time? And if anyone turned down 80.00hr I'm gonna kick you too. If thats true, I'm montreal bound. I had a friend think about getting a job with them and they only offered him around 24-25.00 that was for a permi position tho...

Wow, you guys get $10,000/month. I'm still pretty new at this, only 7 months, worked for CAS and one independant contract. Got burnt on the indie contract, live a little, learn a lot. International is the way to go, I think, and being a dual citizen, but I don't have that blasted B2 ticket. Could ha...

Personally, I was perfectly aware of what she was looking for, but my comments were not to her directly, but to the company in general. She just opened the door that had "Aerotek" on it. But instead of commenting on the past, I'd to take this opportunity to offer you a suggestion. If Aerotek were t...

As for FA, they did cancel all the contracts as the guys went full time. The only exception is me, I am still contracting at FA as an Avionics. I have to babysit a new apprentice they hired, who isn't working out too well for them. For ExcelTech, they are hiring, I was offered many years ago $80/hr ...

I am an AME 'E' licensed, and a dual citizen of the UK as well. You don't have to be a resident as I know a guy from Winnipeg is doing his B2 exams, though he does have to fly over to take them. The unfortunate thing is your AME doesn't exempt you from any of the 12 exams that you have to take for y...

Hey, I am an Avionics AME from Manitoba. I've been with Contract Aero for the past few months, as well as a couple of direct contracts. Hey Kevin, It's Ray here, how the heck are you? I agree with your answer, about Air Canada. I quit because the BS was too much, with no firm answer on who we were working for. Then with the question of passes, pensions, and pay. Mmmm, I seem to remember a townhall meeting with the VP mentioning thos...

I've been working with CAS since April, and I must say they always pay me on time, and correctly. They tried to F... me around too, until they realized I could get my own contracts if need be. Also the customer always request me back. Even to the point of asking me back as a mechanic, (I'm Avionics)...

Hi, I'M ex-RAF (RAF Lyneham and RAF Chivenor). You have to do all the exam for Transport Canada. I was an apprentice at RAF Cosford and they recognized my training without a hitch. If you had the fitter course I think you should be okay, I'm assuming you are NCO like I was. PM if you have any questi...

Re: Contractors Forum
I agree with $35/hr and how some companies are cheap here. I just got back from a direct contract up in YZF, and I tried to bash out a longer term contract, (6 months). They cheaped out, I would ended up getting paid less per hour after my extra costs (Insurance and WCB), then when I was a full time...

CDN Limey, why don't you try another agency or contact the company yourself, then get another agency, I think they like it when work falls into their lap. Unless the company has a exclusive with CAS. Hell you may even get a better rate. Funny you should say that. Last night I got a call from a YZF ...
