Re: Air Tindi Layoffs-Unprecedented
All pilots were called back in March and 2 or 3 additional are being training at this time. All but one DH6 has been back in the air since early April.

Re: Bearskin and carseats
Good to hear, they should probably have a little refresher with their crews. I always used the "aircraft approved" car seats when taking my kids anywhere in an aircraft, most of thier flying experiences pre 5 yrs were in King Airs/99's/1900's. The risk of injury in an accident is far greater in a pe...

Re: 0-540 power settings
Actually I have the Lyc engine manual hear on my desk. I agree that fuel is used for cooling and there's a longer ground roll. This procedure as with many isn't a catch all. When you're doing it in the dirt/shorter runways, the program changes. Maybe I should of been clearer - if you set 40" on the ...

Re: 0-540 power settings
Chieftain (TIO/LTIO540) as in rated for 43" at takeoff, normally full throttle gives 46-49". 40" would be a reduced power takeoff, and brutally hard on the cylinders (lack of fuel)? Not to mention, reduced power not being an approved maneuver for the machine? Max MP of 43" on take-off is what the t...

Eyes wide open Donald?
If you'll notice - I was commenting on the TIO540/LTIO540, T as in Turbo-charged.

Re: 0-540 power settings
TIO540/LTIO540 - PA31-350 Engines are pretty sensitive. If you want to reach TBO or go on an extended TBO program you better take care of them. Tannis/Little Buddy heat in the winter and cowl covers for a couple of hours (at least) before that special time. Start it, idle at 1000, bring it to ground...

Re: Tomahawk,C150...thoughts
I have way to much time in the Tomahawk(PA38) to admit to, and a fair bit in the 150. I'd vote for the tomahawk any day over the 150. Seating position is much more comfortable in the PA38 then the 150, better Vis., easier to enter/exit. Just make sure all the AD's are completed, and don't forget the...

Re: You know you fly too much when....
First when I was instructing I used to plow snow in the winter to help pay the bills, occasionally if I pushed the snow a certain way it would cover the windshield of the pick-up, I caught myself many times at 4 AM looking down for the DG and staying on the gas...instead of slowing down.

Looks like it's true. They had some interesting aircraft. This measure was required due to the inability o...

It wasn't the whole cowling, just the horse collar at the front. Not good, but not as bad as originally posted.

The diving part probably isn't the problem, diving with Nitrox at that level can give you quite a bit of bottom time - although I haven't looked at my dive tables lately. The problem is that quite often fresh water lakes have very poor visibility, especially when you get into lower levels. I don't k...

You can't do it for 52 weeks. See Commercial Air Service Standard (CASS) 720.16(1) Here's the Standard - Assuming you're operating under 703 - Air Taxi. If you're operating under 704 then it continues to get more restrictive. The simple way to think about it is you're allowed to do it provided the o...

Starting pay is $16,800 - Dispatcher or groomer/hz ops guy. It sucks. Not a split shift - in HZ you normally either work the morning shift of evening shift. If you work in the Charter department in YG you also get checked out to do some sightseeing/aerial surveys in the 172. If your a dispatcher in ...

Not sure if anybody has noticed, there's also a requirement to have Stabilized Constant Descent Angle Approach (SCDA) procedures in place to get the Ops Spec's for non-precision...As far as I know this can only truely be done with an FMS?

14% tax. Don't forget PE Air flys their aircraft two crew unlike most PA31 operators (so pay is split). I believe there is a 3 year pay structure for each aircraft as the upgrades come, and they do come fairly quickly. From what I'm told there's also dental/medical and an RRSP program. There's a few...

Try the SkyOx web site. They've got a wide variety of units and half descent prices. If you can order under a company letter head you can get some good prices. They have quite a mark up. They won't advertise this unless you question them. I've used the SK 12-24 and the SK 11-40 they work great with ...

I was on the flight, took a 35 min. delay out of YYT for maintenance on the anti-skid (MEL'd probably) and the aircraft was returned to service. The touch down in YQM was a little firm but nothing to think twice about, shortly after the aircraft began with heavy breaking and that's when the popping ...

You're right it's not in the AFM. I believe it's only noted in the Flight Safety training manual. The way it was explained to me is that 99% of the time when the fuel press. annunciator illuminates, it's only a problem with the boost pump, although there is that chance there could also be a problem ...
