Re: East coast commute

Pretty broad statement there Impact. I know more than a few WJ eastcoasters who have remained quite positive, despite having their port removed, hammered service out of the East, and a scheduling sytem and blocks that offer very little predictability.

Re: Encore gets one list and a new pay scale.

Not quite the great deal its touted to be. 80 hour min block likely returning to 70 hours as of Jan 2015. No YOS - an Encore Captain will take a pay cut to go to Year 1 FO at WestJet. Still 10%ESP, less benefits, - I see no change until ceetification takes place. This is lipstick on a pig.

Re: Why?

Rudder you should know that a great majority of us are disgusted and appalled at the Encore WAWCON. A majority voted for the Encore concept trusting that wage and working conditions would be reasonable. Unfortunately that was not the case. On the upside, there is a stron push to improve conditions a...

Re: Encore's Pay and Work Conditions

I started with Encore a few months ago, its not great. All the worst things in the contract is what you get every month. Im hearing that flow to mainline is not going to happen on schedule. With 50 guys hired this year at mainline , and about 10 guys going if it does happen. We have 70 or so now, s...

Re: WJ pilots reject tentative agreement

Bede said: "I agree it's not a perfect system, and I'm not hell bent against trade unionism. You have to weigh the pro's and the con's and at WJ, the representation model we have is much better than a union model. The quality of some of the leadership could be a matter of debate but that's what elec...

Re: Do we need a college or an association?

All right Doc - you win. I think all those pilots with no protection should form a super union or association (or maybe call ALPA or the CAW and have them do it for you). And when the first job action starts see how far you get.

Re: Do we need a college or an association?

A couple of thoughts on the “personal information” paranoia going on in this and the other College thread. Take a look at the privacy policy of a few organizations like Air Canada, Westjet, Westjet Pilot Association, Royal College of Physicians, ACPA etc. They all follow a similar format and content...

Re: College of Pilots?

Your pilot's license number and standard VISA info (as in any other online purchase) are all that is required. You may include your age (the college is pursuing group insurance for its members, and the age demographic of its members is needed to get rate quotes), and your address if you wish. If you...

Re: College of Pilots?

Prairie Chicken you suspect correctly. The vision and methodology of the College can not be fully defined (or refined) until membership reaches a level that indicates representation of a sizable portion of Canadian pro pilots. To do otherwise would make the College guilty of what has already been in...

My advice... Its a great career... But only if you have the bug. If you are miserable not doing it then do it. Some advice on the path - don't discount any possibilities... Ive worked from instructing to the airlines... the most fun I had was in an Agplane or bumping around in a 185 - learn from tho...

Re: College of Pilots?

Further Doc, I challenge you to step outside your comfort zone. You are obviously passionate about aviation. Give Tom Machum or Dave Coles or Bob Saunders a call. Discuss the College with them. Ask what the College is about. Ask if there is anything or anywhere where your experience and knowledge co...

Re: College of Pilots?

And how Doc, do you propose the College come up with "something to offer" you if no one joins. The board of the College would have no mandate to offer anything if not supported by the majority of Canadian pilots. I respectfully suggest that by electing to not join that you are in fact going with the...

Re: Is it me or are airfares getting expensive?

Well - Of the 2836 about 400 of that went to taxes and fees thanks to the last several federal governments who see aviation as a cash cow and airport authorities with no oversite, driven by ego and a mania for capital projects. Of the 2 major airlines in this country, one operates consistently at a ...

Re: College of Pilots?

I joined the College of Pilots a few days ago. They asked for my licence # (to determine if in fact I am a Comm or ATPL and elegable to join), my address, and my credit card (just like when I order something from Amazon). Didn't seem too sinister to me. Why did I join - well been in this business fo...

Disabled commercial pilots - looking for info and resources

Averaged about 70-75 hours per month in the logbook (80-85 hours paid block) for the last twelve years. Have flown up to 115 hours on a big overtime month. Around 50-60 hours on a month with a weeks holidays. Hope that helps.

As a Westjet pilot for the last 12 years - and a long time conservative voter. I'm appalled by the actions of our government, your senior management, and the media spin on the current labour problems. Your pilots and engineers have 100% of my support. The very best of luck in the coming fight.
