Constitutional Question; Federal vs Provincial Governance
There is an interesting aviation related Constitutional question being asked through the Courts. The scenario is as follows. 1. Aviation and aerodromes are regulated federally through the Aeronautics Act 2. A private aerodrome operator leases privately owned land by signing a lease agreement under t...

Re: Hangar Tax Assessments CYYJ
I think that if your local airport land and hangers have not yet been hit by new and huge tax assessments, they are coming to airports/aerodromes across Canada. Maybe should be class action against these increases. Shouldn't this be a case where the argument of federal jurisdiction because of the Ae...

Re: Wasaya caravan missing
Nice to see SMS work so well for small 703 air carriers! With SMS as it is, there is little or no protection for the vulnerable. Operations like this would not have gotten away with this under the old system (prior SMS) of TC monitoring and enforcement.

Re: "Weak aviation oversight making skies less safe: Opinion"
Seems to me that Transport Canada walked off the edge of this one! Leaves them wide open to claims of negligence in the case of protecting employees and consumers alike, in small category aircraft operations across Canada. Surprised there has not been dozens of law suits against TC and their handlin...

Re: "Weak aviation oversight making skies less safe: Opinion"
I did not receive a definitive answer to my earlier questions regarding the validation of SMS with small air carriers past and present, or under what authority are small operators governed to follow regulations. So I wrote Transport Canada and asked them the question, which was forwarded to their 'T...

Re: "Weak aviation oversight making skies less safe: Opinion"
The report referred to at the beginning of this post (aviation safety oversight in Canada published by the House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Committees) is flawed from the get-go. Under the Summary section concerning SMS “OVERSIGHT AND ENFORCEMENT OF THE ACT,`” it ...

Re: Legal Hangar Battle at CYZU Whitecourt Alberta (previously titled "Things are getting ugly at CYZU") gofundme reque
So I have a question concerning this issue of federal jurisdiction versus provincial or municipal government laws, regulations, etc., at an aerodrome. If someone has a hanger on an aerodrome, because the aerodrome is regulated federally does that mean no taxes are paid on the hanger. Or does the fed...

Is SMS even required for 703 operators? Haven't the small operators been abandoned in regards mandatory SMS and yet the old TC regulatory system is no longer in existence? Or am I wrong?

This thread makes more sense when understanding the bigger picture. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNckSJxFJQ. I recommend the whole video but for this topic 24 - 27 minutes into the video explains clear the motivation. No I am not an anti-Jewish.

Re: Twin Otter crash at Muncho Lake, July 2007
Tragic accident for sure. If you notice closely one of the pilots is on the brakes. Everytime the nose wants to come off (quickly as in a flap 30 takeoff) it settles back to the ground. Would not do that if brakes were not being applied. Also that airplane had a particular habit of the right engine ...

Re: Bad dreams
(wonder what Freud would say!), Obviously Freud would say in the first case that the pilot was suffering from suppressed pilot ego tendencies after a successful landing; to subconsciously crave sexual intercourse, as evidenced flying low down the tunnel (road and trees) as it gets narrow and difficu...

Re: Crash @ North Spirit Lake Ont (4 dead, 1 survivor)
In reviewing the accident investigation reports there seems to be a smoking gun that everyone in the industry has seemed to neglect. On page 20 of the report under section 1.18.4 entitled Safety Management Systems states that while SMS was required since 2005 for small air carrier’s implementation h...

Re: Fuel imbalance c208 floats
Hello Sarah. This phenomenon you describe is usually not noticeable on wheeled aircraft due to level and compact surfaces, on floats however, this mechanical defect is sometimes discovered. Some fuel selector valves don’t seem to work as they were made or intended to work, but leak/transfer fuel bet...

Re: Qustion/Test for Taildragger Pilots
Am I missing something here? P factor and torque pulls you left on acceleration so you would always favour a cross wind that counters from the right when given a choice of 90 degree xwind. Opposite on landing where deceleration occurs especially if turbine powered with reverse, should then favour a ...

I agree with Hawkerflyer’s recent post here. What may have been the difference in the Air France TransAtlantic crash had the pilots been experienced bush pilots/Northern Canadian experience (no matter what the age) that wouldn’t have in that Air France scenario gone; ‘Auto pilot off’ (if so lucky to...
