Re: To all Experianced AME
First off, you really need to make sure your are getting into aviation for the right reasons. The wrong reason to get into it is the Money and good working conditions. Contrary the the general publics knowledge aircraft mechanics generally do not make good money and have to do shift work(night shift...

Re: Procedures and Regulations to put an engine "on conditio
And I'm currently reading the Sky Ranch Engine Manual by John Schwaner. Lots of excellent information. I may be inexperienced and rusty on M1 but I'm trying my best to get back into it!

Re: Procedures and Regulations to put an engine "on conditio
I agree man. Nice reply. I know that manufacturers inspection items are on top and take precident of the CAR625 for example annual items, then there's AD'S and out of phase on top of that etc... So when you say "on condition rule" the requirements are set by your own schedule?

Re: Procedures and Regulations to put an engine "on conditio
Dam I guess I've been out of it for a while I've never did in the past or heard of a borescope requirement with compression tests. I realize my questions are a bit unresearched but with my 9 years in aviation 4 of which was on these small aircraft plus all the information any mechanic could need in ...

Yes true a top overhaul is a long shot at my experience level. He's got new cylinders though which makes is a bit easier but still.

Re: Procedures and Regulations to put an engine "on conditio
I havn't worked on the small stuff in 5 years and I recently changed career industrys and I'm trying to get back up to speed again and opening my side business. Wow a bunch of wolves on this forum! What are you talking about nuff said? It was an honest question and maybe not ALL of us know all the awnsers! There are plenty of private aircraft flying around with "on condition" engines with an approved maintenance schedules. I was just simply asking how to ge...

Procedures and Regulations to put an engine "on condition"?
Hey guys. I have a customer wanting to put his 0-320 on condition. He also wants a top overhaul done. I imagine there are regulations related, 25hr compression checks etc.. or is all of this covered in the engine manual?

Re: leaving aviation for a new trade
Anything to do with turbines outside of aviation requires an engineering degree and 4 years university. Ive looked into it also and forget it. Unless you did your highschool with intentions to goto university. If not you need to upgrade all your highschool and 4 years of university. One of the Engin...

Re: leaving aviation for a new trade
I left aviation last year after 8 years as a mechanic. I am now a 1st year HVAC mechanic AKA Refrigeration Mechanic. Couldn't be happier. Its definetly not as exciting as aviation and it was a very tough change the first 6 month's. By no means boring though. Lots of new , fresh and interesting thing...

Re: Weekend Annuals.
Ok so to go back a couple pages in the thread.... Lol. I bought myself a handheld master compass. Its is a normal read version. When Im pointing at the aircraft I cant recall if I can use this type and use the South bearing to align North in the aircraft and so on. I believe this is how I used to do...

Re: Sources for maintenance manuals?
Cessna would give me up to date manuals for free? For example I do an annual for a guy with a 172. And I find extra's. I doesnt make sense to me to have the owner (or me) buy 1000's of dollars of manuals and update them every year to change a wheel or replace a cable. I know thats what the shops do ...

Re: Sources for maintenance manuals?
Yea I looked on ATP. They want like 600$ for one manual. It would be nice to find a source for specific manuals when I have an owner with no manuals. In my opinion if he can afford the airplane he should have the manuals but I can see an argument ensuing when he tells me I should have the maintenanc...

Sources for maintenance manuals?
Looking for a reasonably priced place to buy Maintenance and IPC model specific manuals. Any place in Canada? I'd be looking for hard copy's. I googled and found esscoaircraft.com and they seem to have everything. Anyone order from these guys?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: 0-320, no fly 4 6mo. Best procedure to identify corrosio
If it were me, 6 month's is nothing. GA aircraft routinely sit for 6 monthes. Check the oil. Start it up. Fly it. Drop the oil and check for metal in the oil filter. If all good, away you go. Forums are full of exaggeration and worse case senario awnsers. Best way is to read everyones opinion and fo...

CARS question about license currency
I know it says you may not exercise the AME license privilage except if you have performed aircraft maintenance at least six months in the last 24. My question is it doesnt say M1 or M2 specific? In 2014 I worked on M2 aircraft the whole year until the end of December. Since then I have not worked i...

Re: Weekend Annuals.
I understand a startup business needs to spend money wisely however. If my funds were limited and I was saving money on tools I would forgo a master compass and spend the money on a plug cleaner tester. I would make sure that the engine turning the big fan that keeps the pilot cool stays running. P...
