Re: FO taxiing
Took me one sector to figure out taxiing with the tiller on the left side. Very different feel from the sim. Of course Murphy's Law, the first maneuver I had to make in the plane was a 180 in confined space and I was a bit agressive nearly knocking over the FAs in the back. Ever since that it's been...

Re: Did we reach the next phase of the pilot shortage?
If someone wants to pay for me to renew my Class I in the Lower Mainland, I'll do a few instructor ratings on my days off. I'll charge $100/hour or a day rate of $450 with my experience. For $125,000/year you can have me full-time. It's a bargain for my experience.

Re: Class 4 instructors
I often wonder if Class 4 instructors receive adequate training in Air regulations, CAR's, ;Recently I had a class 4 instructor tell me that he did not have to fill out the form for Direct Supervision , Prior to an instructional flight. He went on to tell me that the previous flight school he was w...

Re: Feet on the floor or on the rudders
With autobrakes its a moot point. They are designed to give me time to take another sip of coffee and push some more buttons while I transition from heels on the floor to the brakes during the roll out. If I want to take a longer sip of coffee I just put it on 3 or MAX.

Hi guys, would like your take on how this all played out. click the link and listen to the ATC recording. Then, below in the same link is an actual video of the plane landing with little or no flap, and no TR deployment. was he already starting to see a flame out do you think? http://www.airlive.ne...

Still think it's coming from a disgruntled employee or disgruntled ex-employee. Why would they only be targeting Westjet flights? Re: Langley schools. Langley Flying School or SkyQuest Aviat
I started my aviation career with LFS back in '96 working on my PPL. Out of the 6 schools I have trained, rented, worked at, or ran across this country it would be the only flight school that I would give my endorsement to. I credit LFS with the strong foundation that continues to help me in my care...

Are you landing at another point other than your departure? By definition sightseeing is aerial work where pax must disembark at your departure point. I once fired an instructor for disembarking pax at another airport while calling it sightseeing, among other violations. Other things to consider is ...

Re: Part time CFI plus full time job, is it too much?
Its been awhile since I was a CFI but I think there is a CAR that states the CFI of a school has to be full time... You definitely need to be full time to get issued a FTU OC, CAR 426.11(2). Unless your referring to CFI as in Certified Flight Instructor like in the US. In Canada it means Chief Fligh...

Re: Net Take-off Flight Path CARs
So reading through it I have a couple questions. 1) This seems like a very obvious question but if the performance numbers (max takeoff weight charts [includes compensation for airport altitude, temp and head/tailwinds]) that my company is using were relying on a specific Engine Out Departure Proce...

The US will send helo's and jets up to track you and you won't even know they are there as they will stay in your blind spots.

Door latches are just for decoration, and Tanis heaters are just extra weight in the winter. No need to latch the door or plug in the engines in -20 in a Navajo.

You can guess what kind of kid I was. The advantage of having a misspent and vaguely redneck youth is that it's really no big deal being sideways on the ice at 50 mph, or even 100 mph for that matter (after touchdown in the C421, or any other larger twin). Do it with your own airplane all you wish,...

Re: Office/ramp work to FO question
Typically, after working the ramp/dispatch, and a right seat opens up, does your company put you into ground school/sim training and then you prove yourself with a PPC ride, or do you jump into a sim to prove you have some basic skills to begin with, and pray things go good? I've heard CMA does an ...

I dunno, but if I thought I might be trampled by a 1000 lbs animal and had a firearm on hand I would use it too. If it didn't stop I'd keep trying. Then again, I'm not one of those tree hugging, granola eating, socialist, progressive liberal nut jobs.

Had something similar. We were sent to the US training and had not started it yet. We were sent the contract in the hotel. Lots of things had changed in the contract that we had not expected. We refused to sign and negotiated the contract with very favorable conditions.
