Re: Aqua FLoats
I used 3190's for 7 years on a C-185 in a commercial operation. I didn't notice any tendency for 'digging'. They were really stable in crosswinds and bigger lake water, where I felt that the CAP float would wander and not stay as straight on take-off. I much preferred the flat tops for loading and m...

Re: Water Bomber Picking Up Water
Job well done.
Comments are a little embarrassing to read. Scooping isn't that much different from landing on a runway... so how much width do you think you need? As for flying experience, I'd be surprised if most crews didn't have 30 years, and 15000 hours between them. Props.

Re: Skydive King Air lands gear up
Very few people land gear up on a perfectly normal landing (anyone who does is stupid I guess). Normally, it happens when something changes or was out of the ordinary. If something disrupts your thought process precisely when you are doing your gear check, for example, your brain can skip over it t...

Yes, it is designed to be used when on floats as well as wheels.

Re: Belly Fuel Tank for a Beaver
A real advantage to the belly tank is that the refueling is all at the same area... especially handy with aircraft on floats. Tip tanks can be quite a pain, as you have to turn the airplane around at the dock.

Re: No-incident/accident certificate
I phoned, and then emailed my request to a TC office, and they emailed me a Verification Letter within a few hours. (Kudos to the Abbotsford office.)
FYI, Email copy was fine in one country, but another country (UAE) needed the original letter.

US and CDN aviation medical doctor? YVR
Anyone know of a doctor or office that is qualified to perform both the US and Canadian Aviation medicals, somewhere around Vancouver?

Re: C-185 Float Training
You don't necessarily need to go to a flight school or an instructor. There are plenty of experienced float pilots who would be happy to earn a few bucks showing what they know. Ask around and find someone with the right experience and attitude, and go flying.

Re: Water Bomber Crash in Kelowna
It's very unfortunate, but shows it could happen to anyone. The big difference between comparing a landplane landing mistake and an amphib is that the landplane ALWAYS lands gear DOWN, where the amphib sometimes lands gear down (land) and sometimes gear up (water). Considering pilot workload includi...

Re: Can a Widgeon handle rougher water than a Beaver?
I would go with either another Beaver, or get an Otter (turbine). Fact is that you don't want to be in any big water with anything at max weight. Better to plan to be well undergross in those situations. Also, once you're on the water with a flyingboat, getting the pax in/out is complicated. Beachin...
