Re: Actual IFR TRAINING
My first experience of actual IFR came on my flight test. Right after takeoff the controller said maintain 4000, turn left heading 270. The second I flew into the clouds during that climbing left hand turn I knew I was going to throw up. But I held it down and just sweated instead and the nausea gra...

Re: OFF
I did most of my training in Guelph, but a few flights at OFF. The facility is small and as others have noted the aircraft aren't lovely to look at. I made it back in one piece with no problems, so I can't complain about the maintenance. They share a nice big hangar which is a welcome thing for walk...

Re: AVIATION INTERNATIONAL - New Website
Thanks for the critique! We're fully aware of the site's imperfections - it wasn't slated for release for a couple of weeks, which is why it says right at the top that it is under reconstruction. But the Doors Open Guelph event is this coming weekend and there will be a lot of activity at the Guelph...

[Disclaimer: I have a financial interest in the school, so make of this what you will] First of all, I don't think that many flight schools set out to "milk" the studen...

Where are Canadian students going for flight training?
Disclaimer: I have an interest in Aviation International in Guelph. I'm just wondering where Canadian students are going for flight training these days - or if people are holding off because of the economic situation. At Aviation International we are operating somewhat short of capacity. Our main ar...

Re: Multi- Engin
Most flight training units won't rent a multi-engine aircraft out without an instructor purely on the basis of the accident rate - the number of gear-up landings WITH an instructor aboard is pretty staggering, and the schools just don't want to think about what would happen with only one functioning...

The National Gay Pilots Association provides scholarships. I'm on the board. We don't care if you are gay, straight, bi or whatever. But you need to "have demonstrated community involvement, including support of the lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender (LGBT) community." www.ngpa.org - Look under NG...

Re: Aviation International Canada Guelph, ON
Gosh, I go away from this thread for a few days and it turns into a discussion of DA40s sitting on the ramp in Calgary. Just for the record, the student in Guelph who was begging for the block-time discount has decided he now doesn't want it - which is fine with us at Aviation International. The pol...

Re: Please help me choose the right path.
I have to say that to a guy who didn't start flying until he was 51, the worries of 20-year-olds that they have left it too late is pretty amusing. That said, there is a whole summer of good flying weather ahead before college starts and it makes sense to get some training in ahead of time. Remember...

Re: CONFUSED about engine/propeller concepts
Let me confuse things even more: A variable-pitch propeller is called a "constant-speed" propeller - even though the speed of the propeller obviously changes. However, once you set the pitch of the propeller the speed of rotation will stay constant even though you make changes to the power. That's t...

Re: Toronto Airways vs Brampton Flying Club
You could consider Aviation International in Guelph. I'm a part owner of the school, and the following is a self-serving promo, so read on at your own risk: Two certified flight training devices ("sims"), and a Seneca II. Instructors with many hours of multi in real working conditions. ALL the appro...

Re: Flight Training Near Hamilton
Don't forget to look at Guelph (Aviation International). I'm a part owner of this school. There are buses several times a day from Hamilton to Guelph (Coach Canada). Then a city bus out to the airport. Total travel time about an hour and a half. Also, summer sublets of student apartments are plentif...

Re: Aviation International Canada Guelph, ON

At Aviation International in Guelph we are currently considering the option of providing reduced-rate or maybe free instructor ratings in return for a period of "slave-labour" after the fact. Our first thoughts are to take graduates from one of the colleges where they will return after doing the ins...

We have two Transport-approved multi-engine Flight Training Devices "SIMS" and a we...

I trained at Aviation International and now have an interest in the school (full disclosure!) We have trained UK, and French pilots to ATPL in the past 20 years as well as pilots from other countries. We offer time-building as well as flight instruction and are currently in discussions with a Europe...
