Re: Career change to pilot

It’s funny how the only ones that ever slag it are the ones who’ve never done it.

It’s not perfect but I’ll watch the AP in cruise all day long.

If I had to go back to 703/704 I’d def be looking for another career.

Re: Making it to AC within the next 3-4 years?

Newly hired FO with a 705 carrier. I'm a career changer. Anything can change between now and 4 years but AC is the goal. Yes, crappy pay to start but what the heck, it's AC. Can't beat red. What are forecasted hiring trends looking like? How long do we suspect this wave will last? Age 65 retirement...

Re: Career First Officer at AC by design?

You seriously think this ? LOL. Most are prior NB Skips who can't bare to work another 18 day month for the same amount of cash....up until last year this was a 10-15 year seat. Sure there are a few wankers around, but that goes the same for every type we have.....the same could also be said for ev...

Re: Career First Officer at AC by design?

What's with the gloating? Isn't the 777 FO position known as the 'trouble maker' position? Guys who failed their upgrade, too scared to do it, or just don't fit in anywhere else in the company? You seriously think this ? LOL. Most are prior NB Skips who can't bare to work another 18 day month for t...

Re: Career First Officer at AC by design?

My Year 3 flat pay yielded 113k last year with a little bit of overtime and I made over 80k my first year and 90k my 2nd in the right seat of the EMJ. I have recently "offered" to take a WB FO position with the company and am happy with my decision. I work half as much as I did on the narrow body a...

Re: AC New hires please use your WB bid

You guys knew what it was. Everyone has a choice here. Money or schedule. There are lots of choices. Can't handle 15 days at work? Don't like you're schedule? Bid RP and work 9 days a month. Wait until you can hold what you want at the seniority you want. Or bid senior on RSV and pick up some bette...

Re: AC New hires please use your WB bid

I'm kinda tired of people blaming AC pilots for the low starting pay. We tried to stop 4 year flat, B-scale LCC, save the pension... It was voted down by a majority of the membership, and then forced on us by the Ratt and Harper. We all took massive concessions in FOS. Only to have the company turn...

Re: AC New hires please us your WB bid

Regardless of how good or bad the new pension is, there is the immediate challenge of maintaining one's life style and paying the bills upon joining and surviving the flat pay for f..o..u..r l..o..n..g years!!! If Air Canada can't or doesn't want to increase the starting pay but would like to attra...

Re: AC New hires please us your WB bid

Yes. The new pension is hardly a fix. Not even close to parity with the DB. Those who think the issue is dead will be surprised. I do not harbour the resentment of some of my colleagues but I’ve heard “wait till we are the majority” more than once. I believe a storm is coming in time. Unfortunately.

If ALPA ideologies reflect Mr. Adamus and his disgraceful brown nosing of our pathetic transport minister, I’ll stick with ACPA thank you very much. At least ACPA came out strongly against the science ignoring changes announced today. F ALPA. What a joke. Well if ACPA thinks they can come in to ALP...

Re: AC New hires please us your WB bid

I feel bad for the new hires that will be forced to use their WB FO bid in pit while on flat pay. Which will definitely happen eventually if the spots are not filled. Don’t expect it to change though. Welcome to AC. If you’re junior don’t expect anyone to care about you. Especially your fellow pilots.

Re: Career First Officer at AC by design?

Thanks for the insight, but I find that pay hard to believe. Do you have any evidence to back that up? Pay stubs? Before or after tax? I'm assuming before. Simply put, I need to see evidence of $220-240K/year. Not trying to be a jerk, but again, very hard to believe. There are AC 777 FO making $220...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

In the past I have volunteered to work in a number of areas dealing with juvenile's, all required a police check in attempt to protect the children. I never felt that was a problem ……. I wonder why some would? Exactly. Working with children without a check isn't against your human rights. The lady ...

Re: COPA for Kids pilots now require police check

The concept that children are going to allow themselves to be interfered with within 20 minutes of meeting a volunteer pilot is absurd. I was looking for the most ignorant post on avcanada I could find today. And vioala. Thanks. If you don’t want the check or are a pedo and can’t get it than don’t ...

Re: C-Series?

Those who want to take a jet to LA can take a 25 minute train ride from downtown. There will never be jets from the island. Canada and especially Toronto are way too anti-business for that.

If there is a business case for basing out of Ottawa I hope it works out for them.

Porter will operate the A220 when they fly them out of Pearson. Anything else is a pipe dream.
