Re: PC12
I think theirs been 18 deaths in the last three years that appear to be stall spin related? Really? Presumably you're counting the 14 of the last accident (for which there is no final report). Apart from that I'm only aware of 2 other PC-12 spin accidents. (Compared to 160+ accidents in the US over...

Re: PC12
Good info bigredone. As for the O2, all the PC-12s I've flown have had a second larger cylinder in the tail giving a total of 34 minutes for 2 crew and 9 passengers.

Re: PC-12 Engine Shut Down
trey kule: I think you summed it up nicely. Those who fly SEIFR think those who argue against it are idiots. Those who are against it think those who fly SEIFR are idiots. What's the point of arguing it further? One side has an extremely valid concern, the other side has the fact that there hasn't b...

Re: Advantage......Employer
My first break was identical. It was during the last downturn and I got lucky with one of my follow-up phone calls. B.S.'d with the chief pilot for about 5 minutes over the phone and the job was mine. When I arrived for work a couple weeks later, one of the other pilots told me he remembered the day...

Re: 20K training bond for a Metro??
Pretty sure Thunder Airlines has a retention bonus. Seems a fair way to operate. Yeah they also have a bond though. I remember awhile back a poster tried to generate a list of companies that don't require bonds. A noble effort indeed, however a large percentage of the named companies actually had s...

Re: AIM issues
Attended a TC safety seminar this month. At the end of the presentation we approached the fellow from Transport and asked him why the AIM was no longer available in print. The answer: "The decision to go 100% paperless was industry-driven." Apparently "us", the end-users, were harping Transport not ...

Re: What's wrong with Norman Wells?
As far as the town goes, I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. If you're the outdoors-y type at all you'll love it. My favourite part was how easy it was to live without a car. Pretty much everything within walking distance, including the airport. Although if you have the cash, purchasing an ATV would...

Re: Bearskin Airlines and PC-12's
I remember that a few years ago Bearskin Airlines operated a fleet of Pilatus PC-12's and spoke well of them. What you probably heard was the airline saying passengers spoke well of the plane. Compared to the 99s or 100s, the Pilatus was indisputably a step up in passenger comfort (yes, I've flown ...

You try doing your rotation in Inuvik or Rankin or Resolute and see how much you like staying an extra day when your ride home can't get their act together and then lies about it. haha we used to love spending the extra night in YEV or YVQ on the way home! we were just glad to get out of YGH or YWJ...

The problem is that more and more companies are moving from the "promissory note" to demanding money up front because of this exact type of situation. We truly are our own worst enemies.

Re: 1500 TT and 300 Multi for an F/O turboprop?
Sunwest seems to be doing something right. They've been around for a long time. It's true that only 1500 TT for multi-turbine captain is the standard set by many companies. These are usually the companies that also have extremely low time f/o's flying with these inexperienced captains. It's been my ...

I've seen some guys pull the props back to 1450 (cruise setting in the 1900) during climb power settings (instead of 1600). Then just pulling the power levers back for cruise to cruise ITT settings. Haha, yep I know what you mean! On our 1900s it seems like we let the rattle of the airstair door de...

Re: Training bond..
Indeed, there are as many types of bonds out there as there are pilots willing to pay them! As mentioned, they have very little association with direct training costs, but rather a dollar value associated with the operational losses associated with high turn-overs. A penalty for the pilot breaking c...
