Re: Skyservice requirements higher than most

They’ll hire with less, particularly if you have internal references. I work for Skyservice and I was just joking with someone that I am only about 4-5 years away from meeting the hiring minimums for the job I’ve had for almost a decade. Ie if you are short on the total time but have years of jet PI...

Apparently Amsterdam Schipol is trying to ban all GA.

In terms of business this year has been slightly slower than last so far - owner flying similar, less charter which is fine by me! Heavy jet YYZ

The newest one of these short-haul shaming ‘articles’ in the daily mail points out Mark Wahlberg flew on his global from London to Dublin, pointing out it is only a 43 minute flight. Guess he should have swam like the common folk…

Re: Corporate jets are a climate nightmare

Aviation is responsible for 2.1% of global CO2 emissions, of which I am guessing less than 1% of that is attributable to private jets. Pretty sure if we want to reduce emissions there is lower hanging fruit.

Re: YYZ at it again

One GA aircraft affects flow as much as one A380. I would argue finding a place to temporarily park an A380 for 45 min while it waits for an empty gate that actually has ground crew available, before dumping 500 pax (of which CBSA won’t be able to find the ArriveCAN info for 10% of them) into a cro...

I was on hold an hour and ten minutes on Sunday. Worst part was watching CBSA officers come and clear the aircraft next to us and then drive away - I understand there’s nothing to be done if you are ‘not on the list’ to be met, but it’s hard to explain that to the pax when they are waiting for over ...

Re: 14 to 10 day quarantine question

Are we talking 604 or 704? No time required for 604 - assuming Canadian citizens of course - if you can make it to the border you can’t be denied entry but a quarantine/isolation plan will be required (and I guess it’s even possible CBSA could levy a fine) and likely include the crew who are now clo...

Favourite hotel for sure is the seven star right on grace bay. It’s usually pricey though, worst was a last minute charter on a long weekend and the only rooms we could find were condos at a place called northwest point. The place was fine, but the only restaurant had somewhat sporadic hours - and i...

Definitely worth the drive to Zion national park if you have the time. The hike up to Angels Landing is unreal, just watch your step, sadly that trail claims a few lives every year. If you want to make a couple days of Zion there is a nice springhill suites near the park entrance, it gets a little p...

Very unlikely the TC civil aircraft registry will tell you much about corporate aircraft. Most are registered to management companies or numbered limited liability corporations.

Re: CBAA 2019 Compensation Survey

The last line in the graphic shows FO on long range aircraft has a range from $62k - $105k as the base salary. I imagine that range is from a pretty small data set. I’d guess that 90% of the globals/gulfstreams in Canada are operated with two captains up front. Not sure the exact number but at my c...

If my memory serves me I think there are a bunch of Canadian guys flying for an outfit that operates a G650 with registration M-USIK. Also think I was told they have a global 7500 on order that will have the registration M-NSTR.
C-FREE I am pretty sure was a westwind, now a G150 operated by fast air.

Secondly is wage suppression. Management companies, which have a dominant presence in Canada, do not do a good job competing for talent. They instead compete to see how cheap and how long they can lock in said talent. This is what tends to drive away quality candidates. Sorry for the generalization...

Re: YYZ SLOTS.....Again

I hope it is along the lines of what Vegas has now - more of a planning tool than a strict slot system. According to people I’ve talked to at Nav Canada most capacity restrictions at YYZ are due to lack of gate availability, not arrival/departure rates. Since we don’t occupy gates we are not in the ...

Another good resource that is more airport specific is the universal aviation blog - available even if you don’t have any subscription services with them. Great resource for airports requiring slots, special events (Super Bowl, F1, olympics, World Cup, etc.) and the airports that can be trickier - P...

Re: Jumping from airline to corporate?

I think one of the larger changes that has occurred over the past 10 years is that most of the business aircraft being added to the Canadian fleet are owned by high net worth individuals rather than corporations. There are advantages and disadvantages to this - the biggest advantage is that the owne...

I've never seen any studies done on the matter but my guess based on conversations with drivers on both sides of the border is that the US corporate guys typically fly more hours per year than we do. Those numbers seem pretty accurate for true corporate jobs, but my experience is management companie...

I have no complaints about the 2 seasons I worked there, I found pay to be reasonable for an entry level job - I am going to date myself here but I was paid by the roll of film (remember those?) - 8$/roll plus base pay IIRC. It was enough to cover my rent in yxu (hint - sublet from a student who's g...
