Way to go Canada. We took 5 out of 10 most hated and that includes out flag carrier. Being unfortunate frequent flyer I m not surprised.

DAR, I m jealous . You are involved in some interesting projects. One of my all time favorite AC getting new hart. Turbo Beaver performance on piston fuel burn of cheaper Jef fuel. The air intake looks oversize for the cooling requirements of a 500hp diesel. Is it also intercooler inlet? Does it hav...

Opposite? How? Philosophically that are pretty much the same. Both are dictatorships where rights of individual are sacrificed for interests of collective entities: nation, or a working class.A hybrid of two diametrically opposed political systems?

That is not correct. Fuel injected pistons have throttles as well. Look inside a servo next time you have a chance.

Re: Fuel density effect on range/fuel capacity US West coast against south east Asia
I've recently ferried an aircraft from Sydney, Australia to Yellowknife. We could not get our tanks full at +37C. We were full by volume, but short of about 1000lbs , or 5% by weight. Heading North, as the OAT was getting closer to standard, we were able to load correct amount by weight. In Alaska w...

Thanks Pan. We will be heading the other way to Nome. Hoping for a push :-) . Yeah, I remember close to 100kt on the nose low level jet stream going to S. Korea. This time we should only have monsoon in Indo and typhoons in Philippines to keep us entertained. Hoping by the time we are out of quarant...

Thanks Guys I am familiar with Magadan, but not Petro. Looks like Seveluch volcano is active. Also Sigmet for severe turbulence. Seems like most of Russia went feet/QNH, but Petro FIR is still metric/QFE. Fuel will definitely be a consideration for us. Also without a visa we are only allowed one tec...

:smt014 according to the bank of canada. Since 1996 inflation has risen by 48.5percent A 50,000 salary in 1996 to have the same buying power in 2019 = 74580 Yeah. That is based on CPI, or possibly CPIX. These don't include full costs of housing (land and mortgage cost), energy, fuel and transportati...

Not screwing border crossing is your challenge. Some of the US officials don't have much sense of haha. Make sure you are on time for customs, do eApis properly, flight plan, border crossing SQ. Edmonton won't get you sq over the phone, but Kamloops will, if requested from lets say Cranbrook. To get...

Re: Russian military Tu-154 aircraft disappears from radar after take-off in Sochi
Being of Slavic origin myself, I feel that dhc#'s post needs some corrections. Most Eastern Slavic people (Rusians, Ukrainians, Belorusian) are indeed Ortodox and celebrate Christmas on Jan 7th. Most West Slavic people (Poles, Czech, Slovak) are Catholic, or Protestant and celebrate Christmas on Dec...

Re: AirAsia plane missing between Indonesia and Malaysia
Just another clarification - so far the media has this wrong.... Air Asia is a brand. There are multiple companies operating under this brand. The missing aircraft is part of an Indonesian owned company with an Indonesian registration and Indonesian AOC. Air Asia in Thailand and the Philippines ope...

Re: Malaysian plane shot down, crashes in Ukraine
ICAO issued an advisory against overflying the conflict zone in Ukraine and so did Eurocontrol. Advisory is not a very strong language considering the commercial pressures / fuel savings. Ukrainian authorities issued a NOTAM banning flights up to FL320. Finally Malaysia Airlines elected to fly over ...

Re: Malaysian plane shot down, crashes in Ukraine
AuxBatOn. I don't know what kind of MANPADS you're thinking of but 32 000' is a bit excessive for strictly MANPADS don't you think? Agreed, but please read my post. I speculated that NOTAM "safe" altitude of FL320 was selected based on MANPADS effective ceiling + safety buffer. IIRC the highest flyi...

Re: Malaysian plane shot down, crashes in Ukraine
It was well known that pro Russian rebels had BUK anti aircraft systems, stolen from the Ukrainian military, in their hands. Even the older models are capable of reaching targets at over 70000ft. Not sure how the NOTAM altitude was chosen. Probably based on MANPADS threat.

Re: Malaysian plane shot down, crashes in Ukraine
Very tragic, but hardly surprising. Not very responsible of Malaysia Airlines to send a jet that close to NOTAMed airspace over that part of the world. Russian response is typical. My question is, was it done intentionally, or was it a mistake? Doesn't anybody learn history anymore?

Re: Crop duster gets shot at in MB.
Planes get shot at more often then you think. There was some red neck shooting at planes in the Springbank practice area years back. I have been shot at and bombed in Africa, but only bullet holes I brought home in my airplane were over Norther Manitoba. Go figure.
