Re: Typical New Hire RP Schedule.
Pretty sure this is a Transport Canada thing and has more to do with the follow up line indoc training. Under some reg which I did find one time ago - states essentially that the sim training must match the intent of the flying. I was one Cat III approach away from the exact same training as my FO c...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times
Guess I have an obvious question about 787 growth. Where is all the "untapped market" for all of these future arrivals? I mean Air Canada, and Transat (pre-merger) would have filled any "obvious" market vacancies that would generate good, steady income, no? Are they poorly positioned to do so in th...

Re: Pension
New plan. It’s been said that the new plan can yield even more $$$ in retirement than the DB plan if you have the right career progression. I’d say people now that join young and upgrade quickly will make out like bandits in retirement from the TB plan. The DB plan is deader than disco and will nev...

Re: Pension
Hi, I was wondering about the details of Air Canada's new hire pension plan. What is the formula to determine your pension? How many years in until you are vested? It is based on career average earnings so varies quite a bit from pilot to pilot. Having said that I have plotted a conservative career...

Re: Interim bid out
IT IS NOT 4 YEARS PROBATIONARY. IT IS 1 YEAR. I REPEAT- 1 YEAR It is 4 years flat pay which will pay you the same at WJ. Yeah, flat sucks. It's insane and embarrassing Except you can escape by bidding Captain or RP (good schedule) I'm at year 3 and could be 60% from the top on the 737 in yyz and abo...

Re: Interim bid out
If Air Canada wants to fix its crewing problem (and help the profession in the process), all it is has to do is to cancel the 4 year probationary pay. How can one be on probation for 4 long years?! Not even at NASA!! You are confusing your facts. It is a 4 years flat pay system which matches WJ pay...

No A220 in yvr yet but Captain 737 and A320 are going junior. Maybe under 2 years on property and you can hold skipper in yvr

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I would guess a big shaker of a year with lots of layoffs and no movement. Fixed that for you. Gold is potentially on track to hit $2000/ounce - inverted yield curve, so-called "incompetent" federal reserve/unpredictable blow hard president, and other signs of bad news to come. Better hope you've go...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I hope nobody's deferring these days. This could be the last class for a while. This is not my impression from the last message from the boss from 2 days ago. The essence I felt was that they are preparing for an onslaught of new captains and the creation of more positions on most fleets. I would g...

Re: The Ol' PFO
I've never applied to Air Canada or Westjet. Im happy with where Im at now and plan on staying there for good. Sure if things change in the future I'll open the doors. But for now, if AC or WJ wants to hire me, they need to come find me, Im not going to them. Cheers 8) I was once like you. Now my f...

Re: Decent places to live in Vancouver area near transit to YVR?
As much as Richmond is convenient, I would avoid it like the plague. A horrible community & vibe in my opinion... Disagree. Apartment rents are much lower than anywhere closer to downtown, including Marpole, Kerrisdale and Yaletown. Lots of shopping places, including all the major box stores and ch...

Look forward to buying the beer on any layover with any FO regardless of where they came from. Good man! I'm always amazed with the odd +40 YOS skipper who doesnt get the beer. Has had countless beers bought for him throughout his career, makes 6 times what the RP does(or flat pay FO), has a DB pen...

Re: WestJet to be sold in friendly deal to Onex Corp. for $5 billion
It's called eating your lunch bud. That's exactly what WJ is going to do to AC on it's international routes. The 787 product is identical if not better than AC and WJ costs structure is lower.
Very much an "old school" Westjetter type scare comment. Would maybe apply, say 3 years a...

Re: 17 year TA?
There is no rush... we have an existing agreement to 2025. Absolutely. Anyone scared of Rovinescu won't have to worry about his wrath in 2025 anyway. I don't think he has 6 more years in him as CEO... And other deals will have come and moved on by then. GGN is cooked, that's a certainty. Cutting of...
