Re: What is a pilot really worth?
Forgetting all about the what ifs, and the isolated untypical abnormal situations, and the truth is the job is not longer about having experience and knowledge. It is about being able to program and follow a checklist... I think you just glossed over the most important point... experience and knowl...

Re: IFR into CYXT
So you're going to tell me that making a 180 turn at the MAP then tracking back to an NDB following one or two needles that are bouncing plus or minus 5-10 degrees on either side of the desired track is more accurate than tracking directly to said NDB using a track bar/CDI that is rock solid and pe...

Re: Importance of the additional ground school
I want to focus on things that are in the air (stick and rudder my brother). The rest of the science I can read POH/practice in the plane on ground on my own time. What students most often don't understand is that it's more than just concepts. The stuff you do in the air often relates to what you'v...

Re: Continental YVR SUCKS!
The question I am asking, why didn't Mr. Hansen just use the other chair rather than making everyone wait for 45min? He went around the world, I'm sure he could handle 'borrowing' another chair for the 300 or so meters to get from the plane to the parking lot. Things like this happen. Yes Continent...

Re: 21st Century Logbooks
Hello, I use Safelog and I must say that I'm very satisfied with this program. Any experience with the blackberry app? Quite tempted to try it out, but I'm hesitant to drop $179 on the blackberry version. PC only is $79, so just trying to decide if it's worth it. Can you change duty times, etc base...

???“People tend to think the airplane is just flying itself. Trust me, that’s not true. It can fly by itself sometimes. But you’ve always got your hands on the controls waiting for it to mess up. And it does mess up.” -Pilot, South Carolina

Re: Cleared Direct To?
And please....when being vectored around traffic and the controller says "cleared direct to SUMSPOT" don't turn back towards that traffic to intercept some arbitrary track from your departure airport to the destination. Huge +1 On one occasion I queried a pilot who did this very thing. His response...

Re: IATRA EXAMS
The tests don't really change on a frequent basis. Transport Canada has several different versions of the exam, which are selected at random on your test day. If you put in some solid study time, there should be no (or very few) surprises on the exam. I'm personally not a big fan of people sharing t...

I am just using FSX to learn I know ILS but people said I should start learning VFR so that is what I am doing now. I am excellent a math and physics is near the same so I think I can do better. I loved flight simulator as a kid, it's a fun toy but hardly an effective training aid. For basic VFR fl...

Re: Group 1 Ride coming up soon... Questions.
No problem, good luck on the ride. If your instructor is recommending you, it means he's seen you perform to flight test standards many times. Now all you have to do is take a deep breath, relax and do it again for the examiner! If you haven't done much ground stuff yet, I'd ask your instructor to s...

There will absolutely be ground test items. Have a look at the flight test guide here.

Ideally you should have read it a while ago, but better late then never! It's a good idea to be very familiar with the information in this document.

Re: RE: AC Customer Service Rant

I had a legitimate reason and there was no immediate flexibility on their part (only at the end thanks to an understanding agent) Can anyone explain this extreme fare change fee difference ? Has anyo...

Re: Peter Shewring, Canadian aviation icon, passes on
As far as I'm concerned, he should be in the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame; many people knew and respected his work. Great idea. I imagine Peter would be honored. Perhaps someone who has been working with him over the majority of his career could nominate him? I have a feeling Peter touched many d...

Re: Peter Shewring, Canadian aviation icon, passes on
This is incredibly sad news. Reading through all of the posts I can very easily see that he has touched the lives of many, many pilots through his very long and successful career. I can hear his voice very clearly warning us of the "beer low level light!" Like many others have said Peter is a gentle...
