How high is "high time"?
Saw a post saying that "...they only hire high time guys..." and then went on to say 5000hrs. I don't think 5000hrs is high time. I guess it is relative to the position. 3000hr navajo...yes, 3000hr B-767...not so much. What does everyone else think. Is 5000hrs high time? I'd think 15000 would be a l...

As for standing out in the crowd...that's a tricky one. Airspray and Buffalo are kinda' the same when it comes to hiring, but I have not really asked to many of the guys what that would be. I suspect some float, heavy and radial wouldn't hurt but that is speculation. Everyone has the odd guy that le...

Daily routine "out west". Alerts are posted in the afternoon for the next day. For example 10-12 blue,12-13 yellow,13-20 red. Blue=1hr to be airborne, yellow=30 min, red=5 min. Type dictates where you are while on alert ie. AT802s can be away quickly L-188 not so much(walk arounds, DI etc). Location...

These variables are the reason the various companies hire experienced handlers with a good variety in their background. Spacing depends on vis., traffic, tactics(how they want the fire fought), distance to water source, terrain, birdogs experience and a gazzilion other little things. If you want to ...

Close trail is best. Not for scooping but for working the fire. If all skimmers come in together it is less disruptive to the retardent/helicopter action ie. you can work more a/c in less time. Also, a lead-in will only be required for the first tanker in line and the rest can get instructions relat...

Do believe pilots have left Keewatin to fly other A/C before. Let's see...from memory they went on to fly 737, Citation, Challenger, Metro IIs & IIs, Saab-340..help me out here. If memory serves guys went directly from PC-12 to captain on Citation, Metro III, Hawker 800(?) and other stuff. I am sure...

Any owner or wrench twister will tell you that it is easy to fix a problem if you know what it is. These clowns in SK completely lost control of what part was on what airplane. Once you start finding parts on the A/C that don't match the logs(serial # wise) you are in for a real shit show. Lots of m...
