Re: Consolidated backcountry locations in Canada
I really like this idea and have looked around for this information before. Definitely worth looking at BCGA, they’re a great group of pilots. I’m in Alberta and can’t find anything except for the forestry strips which are hardly “back country”. I’ve driven into the hills and found some great spots ...

Alberta Backcountry Pilots
I’m looking to meet up with some experienced backcountry pilots to learn and perhaps do some flying together. A little about me, I’m in my late 30’s and I currently fly turbo-props for a living. I have a few years experience flying off unimproved airports with single engine Cessnas, gravel, grass, i...

Re: Bush pilots emergency pack
I carry a SPOT messenger. Saved my but twice now. This is just off the top of my head and there are some great lists on the Google. First aid kit, snare wire, bug jacket, fishing kit, cards, knife/multi tool, dried food, flint and steel, cotton balls soaked in Vaseline (wicked fire starter and water...

BlackBerry Tips Accessing AWWS
If you own a Black Berry that does not access the AWWS try the Opera Mini browser. http://www.opera.com/mobile I own a BB curve and couldn't get past the AWWS home page. Something about a Java err. One of the active notices on the AWWS page says that Nav Canada can only stand behind IE and Fire Fox,...

Re: Since we determined the best bear gun.......
My favorite bear guns 870 defender or the good ol' .45 acp. Just remember to pull the plug on the 870 and leave the mag loaded with 1 ounce sluggers. If that don't save your arse maybe reconsider where you hang out. And if we're exchanging duck recipes, here's my favorite: 1 fish duck, coots, teals,...

Re: Budd's C-182 pilot
I flew this gig. Although it's advertised as a private pilot position the insurance will require that the new pilot meets commercial standards. It was a great first job for those who like isolation and lots of fishing. Owner / Operator is top notch and accommodations are better than most fish camps....

Re: Company cancels sat phone/tracking...heli over due
http://www.findmespot.com I think if I was flyin in the bush still I would be carrying one of these, regardless of the equipment in the aircraft. If you subscribed to everything they offered including the replacement insurance on the unit, it would cost $200us a year, and $120us for the unit itself...

Re: A Lack of Airmanship...Again!
. This is not an isolated occurrence, it happens every day and if any of you ever pull this crap with me, you'll have to contend with one very angry 75 year old aircraft owner. Seen this happen to a 2007 BE350 this summer, on a sand strip, with a "professional" operating single pilot with a navajo....

Re: 5 years in Canada to work ground crew?
Company hired 4 people from overseas during the boom. Real pain in the ass to get a red pass (about 1 year and lots of paper work) but no problems with having them work at YYC while they waited for CATSA to get off their a**'s.
