Yes but I can say that’s the official excuse. Probably more behind the scenes talk that didn’t go too well.

Re: AC/TRZ Transaction Approved by TC - $5 per Share
This deal is still far from finalized even with this announcement folks Stand by...... There you go. As I said this was far from sealed. Seemed AC was tired of the government inaction and has decided to hand the feds the bag (no offense to TRZ). This likely means a bailout is not coming for airlines.

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Updated Purchase Price at $5 per share
I don't know, do you write 3 letters to someone asking them not to do something if you don't think they're going to do it? He seems desperate. The TRZ board did reject a offer that was superior to AC. I sort of figured PkP wanted in. He is not going to stop now since he knows the public sentiment i...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Updated Purchase Price at $5 per share
If that’s what you interpret, I’m putting the probability of a merge at around 50% now. I was 90% a few weeks ago. Its a political win for the liberals if TRZ is handed to Quebecor.

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Updated Purchase Price at $5 per share
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-peladeau-urges-ottawa-to-reject-air-canada-takeover-of-air-transat/ Quebec media baron Pierre-Karl Péladeau is urging the federal cabinet to deny Air Canada’s proposed takeover of Air Transat, offering to pay more for the struggling airline to guaran...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Updated Purchase Price at $5 per share
This transaction will be approved both domestically and by the EU, with conditions. With the uptick in share price, AC is looking at what will likely turn out to be a virtual non-cash acquisition of TRZ. AC is an extremely motivated buyer looking forward to consummating the transaction as opposed t...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Updated Purchase Price at $5 per share
With another investor interested the government may just shut this down to the benefit of the public and the employees. That's exactly what I was thinking. I would have said there is a good chance the merge would have been approved by goverment agencies but this lowered the chances of it now. Also ...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Updated Purchase Price at $5 per share
Looks like someone else had a competing bid for TRZ but the board didnt think it was "superior" than AC.

Re: Q4 Results
Not really. There are losses and there are losses. Much of the deficit was non-cash losses that were included. For solvency, look at cash on hand and cash burn rate. Regardless, there is no viable alternative for TRZ than the AC revised offer. TRZ shareholders are already getting more than the offe...

Re: Q4 Results
Also a perfect way to deter any other company that wanted to outbid AC and pretty much corner the TRZ shareholders to vote yes. TRZ is going to have serious solvency issues sooner rather than later. There can always be surprises last minute in terms of bid or goverment rejection but looks like AC is...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
Or they are just using the same strategy they used the first time around, offer the lowest possible price as a starting point, and then raise it if they have to. No point in paying more than you need to. I seriously doubt 5 bucks is their max ceiling. Maybe, but the CEO has a fiduciary responsibili...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
So you are guaranteeing a possibility? The probability of someone bidding for TRZ is there, the guarantee is AC walking away if that probability occurs. There is a real political scenario where a Quebec based firm comes to the rescue and bids. I’ve always said this transaction was over priced with ...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
I think the single most important piece of information we just learned is being overlooked. AC has spoken clearly on their intentions. Something we have been waiting for. They could have walked. They didn’t. They wanted a better price of course, but they still want the acquisition. The pandemic has...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
After rereading multiple times, this is an immensely sweet deal for AC but this deal can actually not materialize and can still be voided if regulators say no. Someone can also now bid for 6$/share or higher for Transat and if AC does not match it, TRZ only has to pay AC a 10 million break up fee. A...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
-layoff 20,000 workers -ask remaining air canada pilots for a paycut. -buy another airline right after the MOA is signed for pennies on the dollar. AC management deserve every dollar in bonus when all this is done! Never let a good crisis go to waste. This will be a great case study in future MBA cl...

Re: Air Canada and Transat announce Increased Purchase Price to $18 per Share
Probably the best outcome or news that Transat could get so far in the current situation; delays. There is no way AC would be able to absorb the transaction right now (mid-2020 was the estimate initially). Holding on and waiting for an extra 4 months will be hard for Transat I guess, but at least i...

Re: The Return to Normal?
Unless your bail out is on the condition you merge with Transat. Yes, but bailing out each airline individually might be cheaper and allow TRZ and AC to remain afloat. There is zero public support to hand money to AC just so they can buy another airline in this crisis, even in Quebec. The optics ar...
