Re: Jazz Pairings

Thanks :) , What kind of pairings tend to be more popular, which ones less (trying to gauge what a new hire on the Dash would get)? -Maus New hire YYZ Dash 8 - reserve. If you aren't on reserve, you can count on having standup shifts (evening check in/early morning check out), multi day pairings ty...

Re: Encore Hiring

Hi Flyer, I remember those years too. Not fun. I think (if memory serves) I was paid 33k or 35k year when I started with Air Ontario in 99. That was just after I went through the shut down of Air Atlantic and then Inter Canadien. I recall the CRA stuff well because they offered up interviews to us ...

Re: WestJet Captain receives passenger's sexist note

Best response possible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1feazmJ2mkk&feature=youtu.be I happily support women entering aviation... What I don't like is reverse-discrimination against men. We're going for equality, aren't we? Why do we need a women-only event? As a "woman in aviation" myself, I agree ...

Re: WestJet Captain receives passenger's sexist note

Interesting rumour from the Lower Mainland this week... This "complaint" was a setup, intended to drive media coverage and highlight an event being held at the Langley (BC) airport this weekend... "The Sky's no limit - Girls fly too", targeted at all females in the area with an interest in aviation...

Re: WestJet Captain receives passenger's sexist note

Just as racism and sexism is alive and well in Canada,, SO IS Favoritism! Putting people into jobs they are not equipped for to satisfy a quota is foolishness. Positions of employment and advancement should be based upon performance, ability and a good fit, regardless of race, sex or beliefs etc ! ...

Re: WestJet Captain receives passenger's sexist note

Thanks ahramin. At the very least this news coverarage will show all the other people who have never heard of female pilots that they actually do exist. I must say that the note that "David" left is not at all shocking. Things like this happen all the time. I find it slightly odd that it happens to ...

Re: housing around YYZ

I'm assuming you're a pilot looking to work for a major airline. If so, traffic is no big deal. It's not like you drive to work Monday to Friday at rush hour. I've been in YYZ for a year and have never been stuck in traffic enroute to the airport. I've been in traffic back home around a half dozen t...

Re: Jazz Aviation Diversity Program is not inclusive of all

How do you know I'm white, able-bodied, heterosexual, or a male for that matter? I was asking if I could get some recognition because, as an asshole, I'm a minority. Or are you implying that white able-bodied male heterosexuals are all assholes? What bubble do you hate to burst? Your post requires ...

Re: Jazz Aviation Diversity Program is not inclusive of all

Would you be a bad person if you pretended to be gay or bisexual in order to cash in on that initiative? Is there a cut-off point beneath which you're just "not gay enough" to count? I mean, if someone began to suspect you weren't? Would you be in trouble? What about "that one time at Mardi Gras", ...

Riiiiight... In an interview a young kid is likely to say that they want to make a career out of this small operation.

People will leave for any number of reasons. Women have one more reason to leave. Might as well hire the man

Re: Hiring child-bearing age females

Upon being hired at a company I was told by the owner "don't you go having babies on me now." It was all downhill from there. Classy. In my experience the type of company that would hire a young man over a young woman will sooner or later be exposed. Either they won't hire women at all or the women ...

Re: Crew screening

I just talked to YYZ catsa 15 minutes ago and it seems that the US bypass will resemble the domestic bypass - step on the mat for a green or red arrow. We'll see if that's actually the case when it comes into effect. I don't know about other airports throughout Canada though.

Give an extra 15 min??? I would say you should just report for duty at the appointed hour and conduct whatever pre flight duties you have and proceed to the screening point as you did in the past. If the flight is delayed, so be it. If there are significant delays then I guess the air carriers are ...

I disagree. Take pay cut somewhere else....office, ground staff, management....because last time I checked, Jazz was 4th airline in N.America for on-time performance. Frankly a lot of people are involved in this achievement, but when it's all said and done, when doors are closed and park brake is o...

Perhaps what someguy123 was asking was whether or not having a diploma would help his chances of gaining employment. I think it might have been understood as "getting a diploma to show off." I don't have an aviation diploma. When it was time to consider aviation college for me, I thought about it fo...

Low timers need mentoring, and then can mentor others following behind, like newbie PPL's and students. Personally, thank you to those w...
