Re: Biplane crash Brantford, 1 dead
Sad news. I worked with this gentleman at a previous company. He was a true gentleman and a great instructor. I did my very first flight in a 757 with him. He was a pleasure to work with and had a very gentle nature about him. He enjoyed life and work. He was a true professional and took pride in hi...

Re: Sunwing is hiring seasonal pilots
So Sunwing will hire some seasonal Canadian F/O's and then bring in foreign Captains making much more money.
Not really fair to a qualified Canadian is it?

Re: Log Book Question
Sorry Colonel, It is a requirement to maintain a log and TC specifies what it must contain. I could be written in a logbook, in a computer or even on toilet paper, but if you are applying for a licence, permit or rating, or if you hold one, then you must maintain a log. 401.08 (1) Every applicant fo...

Re: Letter to Jean Francois Mathieu TC Chief enforcement off
Not quite that simple to get an ATPL. All 3 written exams must be completed. Then the IFR ride (usually part of the PPC they would be doing). Then lets not forget the experience requirements. That is the big difference between the CPL and the ATPL is the experience. A lot of F/O's from Europe will n...

Re: licence and medical when interviewing
They can ask for authorization to view your file. You can sign an authorization, but TC will not release any information to them. TC will only release information directly to the individual. This information would normally be in the form of a letter. Certain overseas carriers request "no accident, n...

Re: licence and medical when interviewing
Wasn't there a pilot at WestJet pilot who had faked his ATPL? Much harder to do now with the new Licence booklet. When a company asks for licence and medical, they just want to make sure you have both and they are valid. TC will not release any personal information to a company. They will only relea...

Re: Rush Passport
My wife got hers in two - three hours at the Kitchener office. Her passport had expired and she was leaving for Cuba the next day. The staff was very helpful. We gladly paid the extra fee - about $140 or so all in. I have had mine renewed at the same office in two or three days by showing my schedul...

Re: Canjet 757's ?
Hey Stick-Shaker, Before passing judgement on the ability of CanJet pilots operating overseas, how about considering the pilots at CanJet. There are many ex Zoom, Skyservice and a mix of other pilots with 757, 767, 777 and 330 backgrounds. Just because CanJet has not had ETOPs and overseas experienc...

Re: Obtaining a no accident / no incident report
Contact the TC office that has your file and ask for someone in licensing. They will check your file and issue a letter. Many overseas airlines demand this letter. It is not an unusual request at TC.

Re: Pearson Incident??
Thanks for the reply. It just seemed an odd place to park a couple planes. I think there was also a group that was going to tow an airplane somewhere. Possibly firefighters if I remember, but not sure where or when.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Pearson Incident??
Leaving Pearson Sat. morning (June 18) and there was a FedEx 757 parked at an odd angle near the threshold of 24L. At the first taxiway up the runway was an AC Airbus, looked like it was a 319 and it was about 45 degrees angle across the runway. There were some pylons out and some people around. Any...

Re: Pilot-in-Command under Supervision
OK -- This is really, really simple. Quit trying to split imaginary hairs or invent reasons to put Command time in a logbook. Believe me, it is very simple to spot when TC looks through your logbook during your ATPL application. I know this first hand from processing these applications during my tim...

Re: Purolator engine failure CYMX
I've got about 1,000 hours in a B-727. Dumped fuel twice.
"A" system failure just after the flaps were up and a duct overheat right after takeoff. Dumped fuel down to landing weight and landed at departure airport.

Re: Question regarding ATPL time requirements
OK, I'll weigh in for what it's worth. I was a TC Inspector and worked in licensing. I left before the lobotomy. Even though the same standards are supposed to apply, each application is processed by an individual. When an application is submitted, the person who handles that application may be a pi...

Re: Transitions Lenses - Any good for flight?
I have prescription glasses and fly a Boeing. My optician set me up with a pair of transition lenses that he tinted first. They always have a tint, so can only be worn as sunglasses. In the plane (or in any sunlight) the glasses get darker. I find them excellent at work or driving. I don't think the...

Re: Question about logging time on privately operated airplane.
Chippy, I have a question. Why do they want to log PIC? Will it be used towards an ATPL? Will it be used to upgrade or obtain any TC licence or permit? Is it just for insurance requirements? If it will be presented to TC for any reason, the "instructor" needs a minimum CPL. (CARS 425.21) If they are...
