Life Insurance
Does anyone have recommendations for personal life insurance as a pilot? I’m working seasonally this year so will not have company benefits. I have been looking at PPIP but any other options and/or recommendations would be appreciated. Also anything to watch out for when applying for coverage… Thanks!

Re: Backpain
I know you are fixed wing but some helicopters have debilitatingly bad seats. There are a number of medium pilots who swear by Roho wheelchair seat cushions. They support you but don’t lock you into one position. They are pricey though….

Re: 2023 Pilot rates
Those are decent numbers. I haven’t really talked to any operators this year yet, but last year was a real hodgepodge of rates. Narrowing it down I would say last year I saw $450 a day, and $100-150 an hour for intermediate drills. Any chance of sharing who is paying those rates? Would shorten my se...

Re: What do helicopter pilots make?
I would agree with Easy Target on the wage range. The rotary industry sucks, but all we would need is another busy fire year and exploration to pick up again and then you will see wages increase(maybe). The only problem with that is you get too busy and you are never home and your schedule is non-ex...

Re: Flight Time Interpretation
Not sure if I’m allowed to link to other forums but there has been a long term discussion concerning this very thing in helicopters. Basically, after much back and forth with TC, including rescinding a document clearly defining it, (I believe!) it means that once you leave the ground for the flight,...

Re: Flight helmet
Said this over 8 years ago on this very thread. Merit apparel is great to deal with, and the gallet is tits. My lh250 needs some love but if I have to buy another helmet it will be the same. For what I do both the 350 and alpha are too big. Also the alpha makes you look like Stewie..,,

Emoticons or Smilies or whatever....
I propose we all engage in a self sponsored ban on the use of emoticons, smilies, or otherwise cartoonish characters when we post in threads concerning the injury or death of people.

Re: looking for some advice about right at work
Before you sign, make use of forums available to research the company first! There are a few VERY well known companies that routinely abuse their low time pilots. There are also a lot of companies with high(er) standards out there. I have had multiple endorsements and mountain course etc with not ev...

Re: From Helicopter to fixed wing
JLMG,
Are you able to find IFR work? I have thought about going over to fixed wing but have been told the vfr Heli time counts for zilch. Heli IFR pays better out of the gate as well, as I'm sure you know....
