Re: Cessna Windshield Broke

Did your C140 have the wooden dowel in the middle of the yoke ? For pilots that learned to fly with a stick . You can fly the 140 just like a stick plane using the dowel as a stick . Just a fun bird .

Re: Cessna Windshield Broke

I had read about phugoid oscillations in a book . Seeing one and fighting to get back pitch control got my full attention . I did manage to talk the student back into the air after the plane was fixed . That was harder than the spin recovery :)

Re: Cessna Windshield Broke

I have lost the top left quarter of 172 windscreen in a spin recovery . Could not control the oscillations below 90 knots . Hard to control pitch below 90 knots so I landed at 90 knots . Expected a long roll out , but the drag slowed the plane down and the expected fencing damage did not happen . Th...

The Scientists cannot agree . But most military planners are in agreement and are re-arming and getting ready . The flurry of activity at dual use laboratories is interesting . The car parks at the malls are empty , but the car parks at the Laboratories are full . I do hope General Carter is wrong ....

The Float Test ? For a smart phone . The offshore oil industry has a similar term for things that are useless or persons unpopular . Give it the float test . Evil laughs all round once someone says what we were all thinking . Never mind the hair for men club auditions are nearly over and the contest...

The Danish have made some interesting discoveries in their mink farms . The COVID has mutated in the mink farms . If it spreads into other farm animals we may all have to eat lentils Or those veggie burgers . Gory story . The Normal just got a little bit further delayed . Another new strain will fur...

Wow , how time flies . I never thought the last time I saw him would be the last time . He was such a kind and gentle person . I feel very lucky to have met such a decent man . His degree hanging on the wall was made of parchment . There was a great story to that . Made from a sheep he said . At 92 ...

Just go watch the crop sprayers doing hammer head turns all day long , if you want to see how easy steep turns at low level are done . Cranking and banking at ten feet , pay attention for wires and poles . Getting paid to have fun :)

Re: Nanchang CJ-6 down in Victoria BC

Landing gear up ,I would take a runway over dirt . If you catch an edge or something digs in hard into the dirt, or find a ditch you can cause more damage to the aircraft and the you may experience side loaded rotational g forces that will snap your neck . If the gear does not come down on my aircra...

Re: Spins before solo?

The AC -61-67C answers the first part of your question , the second part is usually because the approach speeds of gliders are much closer to the stall than certified training aircraft .

Re: Spins before solo?

One question you might get asked on The Oral portion of a CFI ride is : When would you recommend spinning an airplane deliberately ? And by spinning I mean a fully established spin , tucked right in ? Slow airspeed slow rate of descent , Axis of rotation stable in the vertical . Hint 1; Stearman mai...

Re: Spins before solo?

Big F difference between incipient spin and a fully developed spin . Most instructors would struggle to recover from a fully developed spin . I have flown with two instructors that had issues with fully developed spins . The first one lost a leg in a spin they could not get out off in Cessna that go...
