Re: The Flying Firemen - who were they?

Hey Sonny Had a co-worker tell me about all the postings here on the Forum. Thought I'ld better check it out. Brings back a few lost memories for sure. I'm still out there living the dream; flying 'Das Auto' in the high artic. I'm making plans to make it to the reunion in Oct. I saw Carl in Yellowk...

Re: The Flying Firemen - who were they?

Mike Pearson, the name stands out and for good reason. He was a giant among pilots and showed his humanity in every endeavour. As a former RCAF engineer, and pilot for the FF Mike and I got along like best friends. He'd call me in YBL to go fly in High Level and I was ready in no time. He'd then fly...

Does anyone know what happened to that bomber that crashed in B.C.? I heard on the news everyone was ok. Perhaps it was discussed, I was gone to Rupert for a while.

Re: You Can't FLY....Now What??

When I left flying I went teaching at a college for two years, Physics and chemistry were not as much fun as flying so I tried trucking, I acquired my own authorities and had five trucks.I still made over 100 grand per year but didn't have as much fun as I did flying. Your only as young as the woma...

Re: flying fireman canso CF-FFC

I agree there were some A/C that were set up like that but FFJ had a safety lock so that wouldn't occur. We had to lift the guard first.

RE: Flying Fireman C-GFFJ

In answer to your question, my best guess is, being as the doors were a drop type system maybe the bushings on the torque tubes were worn, pins in the hyd. jack system were worn this could have caused the geometric system to not work properly. We must remember that this system works best with water ...

Re: flying fireman canso C-GFFJ

We were having lots of problems with the doors. Sometimes we would do our external checks and the doors would be closed but the light in the cockpit would be on. So when we were in flight Ray or myself would cycle the doors and the light would go out. Our first guess was that the micro switch wasn't...

Re: flying fireman canso CF-FFJ

When Mike Pearson , chief pilot for the Flying Fireman, Ray Simcoe Captain on FFJ and myself were training on lake cowichan, Ray came i...

flying fireman cansoC-GFFJ

Would anyone like to know some of the history of canso C-GFFJ. That would be after it left Alaska for Sydney to go with the flying fireman, and subsequent flights.
