Re: Canadian north to buy first air
Maybe 5T/Nunasi want to purchase 7F for rights to the Herc ops.. not the B737 traffic. 7F is the only commercial carrier in Canada certificated for Herc operations and have all rights for acquiring and operating them in Canada, No one else does, so speculatively, it would only be a smart move if 5T ...

Re: NTA accident at CYCP
I heard that the RSC wasnt exactly the best, and that the 1900 crew had tried to avoid some "potholes" that have been forming , which is what caused them to catch the windrows/slush and creating the event that occurred. If you use CYCP as an alternate, you may want to have a company rep do a field i...

It was operated by Southern Frontier (which was owned by Time Air), we used to do Calgary to Lloydminster during the week. No, it was operated by TimeAir as a TimeAir flight after KI bought SFA... SFA did not exist after the purchase. The flights operated 6 days a week YYC-YLL.. I worked every one ...

Re: Timeair
TIMEAIR served YYC-YLL-YOD-YLL-YYC with BE99 's and eventually the DH8's.
One aircraft type that was missed was the Citation II .. this was subbed in on occasion for sked flights and I saw this happen a few times on the YYC-YLL-YOD run. Needless to say it made for some very happy passengers! lol

Re: A Star Helicopter Missing Langley to Kelowna
Wow, surprised to hear they are deploying to YLW... not much real estate there to op search and rescue operations (ramp space limited) espcially if they are utilizing C130's or even the C17 (doubtful).. I imagine using the Buffalo and Cormorants only at this time? C-17's don't search - ever. No CC-...

Re: Canadian Runway Friction Index
Arrivals or FSS may "elect" to inform inbound aircraft of braking conditions reported by other aircraft that have landed, it is not an obligatory procedure, but rather a courtesy. The CRFI is strictly a number representing the "average" braking conditions over the entire runway surface length by per...

Re: Canadian Runway Friction Index
I believe that there is a chart in the back of the CFS that attempts to correlate the various runway friction and braking report formats. For example: "Poor Braking" is roughly equivalent to 21-29 Reported Mu and 0.25-0.40 CRFI. As we all know this far from an exact science, so this is only the rou...

Re: Canadian Runway Friction Index
Performing CRFI's is part of my job , a 0.2 reading is generally the guideline for closing "most" runways to aircraft operations until you can get it at or above 0.25.. A 0.4 - 0.5 is the ideal readings during periods of inclement weather (snow) and less than 2cm of accumulated precipitation on runw...

Re: First Air Crash Resolute Bay August 20 2011
I am not a pilot, nor a crew member, however have had plenty of aviation related experience in the north, and I have to agree there is a lot of uninformed and "armchair" speculation going on by "Vultures" whom seem to think they know it all. Until the TSB has concluded and released their findings, n...
