Re: float flying
Playing with my new GoPro camera. Landing and taking off this small lake near Chapleau, ON is challenging because you have to thread the needle through the narrows in the middle of the lake. Glassy water and a hot day just make it more interesting.

Re: Motorcycle-licensed pilots
These are the two in our stable right now: http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e154/airtids/P5050043.jpg '78 Trail 90 . I had a Honda Trail 90 in the '60s when I was a kid. I recently acquired a '69 model that I have fixed up. They are fun little bikes that will go anywhere. http://i10.photobucket.co...

I signed the petition, but it needs a lot more signatures. Maybe put a notice in the COPA Flight for all members to sign.

Re: windshield cleaning stuff
I use an old motorcycle windshield trick. Soak a towel with water and spread it flat over the windshield for about fifteen minutes. This will soften the bug guts and they will wipe off easy with the towel.

(Has anybody seen or heard from Lee Cole in the last few years?)[/quote]
I saw him at the Chapleau town dump last summer. He seems to spend some time at his lodge on Five Mile Lake in summer, but he is not operating or maintaining the outpost camps.

Re: Water aerodrome supplement in PDF?
The last time I bought a Waterdrome Supplement it had many listed waterdromes that are no longer in business. Call ahead to any listed waterdromes you expect to get fuel at to confirm they are still open.

I took a nice pic of that AirDale Beaver at a floatplane fly-in at Anjigami Lake in 2008. It was magic hour for picture taking when the sun peeked out from the clouds a few minutes before sunset. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a131/Korpela/DSC_3988.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a131/Korpe...

Re: STC for Odyssey Battery / firewall mounted battery tray
I want to do this to my 180 too this winter. The old battery and that long run of old cable from the back is making for some pretty slow cranking on start-up. Apparently this mod saves 28 lb. and the firewall mounted battery gets warmed up too when you have to preheat. The only problem is that it ad...

How about a Shorts Skyvan? They have the capacity and would be easy to load. There are several in Oz as listed here...

Re: Float plane take off distances?
You can also see shallow areas that might best be avoided. I strongly disagree with that. In my experience, Google Earth does NOT have the resolution required, even in the clearest of lakes, to reveal potential hazard areas in the water. It can be helpful to scope out a new lake and get a feel for ...

Re: Float plane take off distances?
Before going into a new lake I usually check it out with Google Earth. You can measure distances for takeoff runs using the ruler tool. You can also see shallow areas that might best be avoided.

Heres a nice pic I forgot I had. I took this at Sudbury Aviation on Whitewater Lake early one morning while I was waiting for glassy water conditions to complete that part of my seaplane rating.

Re: C-185 Float Training
Sudbury Aviation on Whitewater lake in Azilda. They've been in the business for a long time and have great people. They have a 185 on floats and a beaver and I think they might have a 172 or something on floats for training too. There is no substitute for professional training from people who do it...

Re: Cessna 180
I had to have carb on my R model overhauled this summer because it was leaking. The overhauler said there was also problems caused by all the mogas the previous owner burned. I don't know what damage mogas can cause to a carb, but its another thing to look for when shopping for a 180.

Re: Cessna 180
As an investment, the C180 tends to hold or increase in value so if you change your mind after buying one you should be able to get your money back.

Re: Important info for flying into Chapleau (CYLD)
You should be able to drink the water at the airport since its not part of the municipal system. People have always complained about the taste of Chapleau water. I live in the Chapleau area and get my water from a sand point brside Borden Lake, its great.
