Sorry for your airplane!
28.99'' was the altimeter setting when I took off that day. Quite the impressive low, steadily moving through at 35kts.

Sounds more like the government is using semantics to create a "capability gap" in order to not buy F-35s...

Re: Review Of F-35 Fighter Likely To Yield Lower Price, Faster Production
Here I disagree as well. We cannot meet our NATO and NORAD commitments with the number of CF-18's we currently have and we needed an immediate increase in numbers. The SH is the obvious best choice for that. Whether or not already having some of those jets influences the overall replacement decisio...

Re: Review Of F-35 Fighter Likely To Yield Lower Price, Faster Production
You're missing the irony too I'm curious here: what are all the cognitive biases that you have to go through to convince yourself that your opinion regarding this subject is more actual and relevant than the opinion of a guy like AuxBatOn? How do you convince yourself that someone like AuxBatOn jus...

Re: Review Of F-35 Fighter Likely To Yield Lower Price, Faster Production
It will end up being WAY more expensive and far less relevant in the near future for most missions, than just straight up buying F-35s. This is a purely political decision that has nothing to do with the reality of the RCAF needs and the actual long term costs. (Super insightful comments about the S...

Re: Bent Harvard II - Moose Jaw
It's just kind of interesting that a machine designed to train for combat is apparently more fragile and vulnerable to such than a C172. What's interesting about this? Different roles, different limitations and design requirements. I highly doubt anyone really gives a shit that an airplane was writ...

Re: Bent Harvard II - Moose Jaw
[ AuxBat and Gannet have been around here a fair while and both are highly respected. I think they overreacted and assumed a very superior position to all those wondering why the ejection. I don't think people are stupid or need to be demeaned if they question how this aircraft came to belost, in t...

Re: Bent Harvard II - Moose Jaw
To all the armchair warriors out here thinking ejecting is just part of our orders and mindset, I can show you 100 times more cases of dead military pilots that didn't eject when they should have (or didn't pull the handle early enough) than cases where an unecessary ejection happened. Actually I'm ...

I'd rather be an airshow "embarassement" than getting shot down in combat.

Re: High altitude cold weather corrections
If you really want to bother adjusting altitudes (like most people, I don't understand why you would though), just use the formula I mentionned earlier: 4' per 1000' AGL per degrees below ISA temperature at the surface altitude.

Re: Dogfighting
Question(s) for those in the know... Just took the Shore jrs to see Rogue 1...lots of 'dogfighting' in the last scene, most of it stern chases - makes for good movie suspense, as the targeted craft jinks around in the crosshairs until the final blaster shot, etc.. got me to thinking about aerial co...

Around 4' per 1000' AGL per degree below ISA at the SFC. Around -40 would almost do it.

You're right, any questioning of government must be a conspiracy theory And the NTSB would have done the exact same level and reached the same findings if it was a PPL in a king air vs the f16 They are the government, and they are here to help :goodman: How close do you think civilian governmental ...

Absolutely, previous flying experience is an asset that will let you advance faster than your comrades . Some might tell you you won't be trained the way the military wants you to be. Nonsense. You can pickup the differences when you get there. If you are at RMC in Kingston, I strongly suggest Fly ...

I maintain there needs to be a proper, realistic competition starting from a zero baseline involving all the appropriate government departments, using all appropriate considerations and without any predisposition toward any of the contenders. It is the only way to avoid the corralling effect toward...

Agreed That's why I said manslaughter not murder He, in that airframe, and with his training, had the ability to change altitudes or directions in a second flat, he had the training to know how, he had a duty to act, he was given warning, he did not act, loss of life ensued. I'm not trying to be ju...
