Capt Esq. Just curious--has the offending skipper asked you to fly it the (wrong) way that he does? If so, that should give you all the excuse you need to set him straight. Otherwise, I wouldn't avoid bringing it up to him, but you want to do it in as diplomatic way as possible. Hopefully he will be...

Besides, as the co-pilot, there's rarely an arguement I'll ever win... even if I couldn't be more right. That's life as a co-joe, though! I feel for your plight, and it is even more difficult at some of the smaller operators (as opposed to larger airlines). But at a larger airline, you can win thos...

I'll try.... 1) I don't commute, but lots do. There are places around to rent--often a few commuters will get together for a crash pad. I don't know how much you would be looking at. The most difficult thing about that is the transit from the airport isn't that great, so depending on the time of day...

They'd only worry if some wacko actually flew around with a stopwatch and logged his 'actual', or more likely forged the column with some bogus number. There are some requirements for 'simulated or actual IFR' time for some early licenses I think, but after that (the last 6800 hours, for you) it is ...

The whole westjet port thing is very conceptual right now, with not alot of specifics. Remember, everyone will officially be based in YYC. But pairings will be built in whatever is deemed a port, and people can bid for those pairings. Eventually you may get a whole block of pairings out of the 'port...

I flew the RJ before I came to WJ, and the climb difference is profound. I believe you haven't been on the machine that long, but I remember having controllers querying if that was some special low rate enroute climb we were doing. It is fine down low, but runs out of jam pretty early. The NG's just...

I believe there is a bidding option that is 'group days off together'. Or, you can just bid for certain groups of days off as desired, and you should get most of it. Most scheduling problems arise if people are bidding a preference to do pairings of a certain length. Also, with the new agreement, th...

Bede, I'm not sure if WJ700 is a y3 or y4 FO, but if he chooses the max cash/min options version, y3 is over $82/hr, y4 is just under $86/hr--that is flat base salary. That is not including the optional 20% raise via the ESP, or the more non-guaranteed parts of the compensation like options and prof...

I'll post some info, because I believe everyone thinking about their career options has the right to know what the details are. I just don't want to get into some silly flame war. Hopefully most people are aware of the 4 main parts of WJ compensation; 1)base pay 2)employee share plan (ESP)-20% of sa...

Just to clarify, Jazz is 2nd in terms of number of aircraft and number of routes. WestJet is bigger in terms of revenue and available seat miles. Neither answer is wrong, it just depends on the metric you are using.

Oh, and I believe WJ is at 55 aircraft now---new delivery yesterday.

As RVSM said, could be anything. The big thing to understand, is that there is NO seniority for most things. Obviously it has to be used as far as upgrades, but it means nothing when it comes to scheduling. You put your bid in once a month, and the system tries to give everybody as good a sked as it...

Yes, it is a realistic option. We have several people who do it now, and some from even farther out east, I believe. Obviously, be aware of the extra costs and time involved with commuting anywhere, but it is very doable. As well, things are changing to make a commuters life easier. Crew scheduling ...

Where did some people start getting this attitude that if the job they applied to get doesn't pay what they think is enough, then they have every right to do a lousy job? If you want more money, apply for a higher paying job, and maybe get some skills so that you are qualified for higher paying jobs...

I'll put in my opinon as another know-it-all who hasn't studied the CAP for a while, but I had no idea there could be this much confusion over it.

DA--Precision app minima read from altimeter

DH--height above ground minima read off of rad alt (cat II and III)

Let me assure anyone who has a real interest in this, that your numbers are completely wrong. I cannot state this with more bluntness. Hey BT,

I would guess the average is low-mid 30's for new hires, though they will hire quite a range. We have hired a fair number of 'older' folks as well, age really isn't a big issue. Is there something particular you would like to know?

As I've ranted before, it is unreasonable and disingenuous to make a condition which is totally outside the realm of control as a pre-cursor to this negotiation. Trying to extort a resolution to a private lawsuit as part of GS was an attempt to a) kill the GS process before it started b) create infi...
