Re: Buying Safety....$$$$$?

The safer company you propose begs two questions. Is it possible? Yes. Is it probable? No The way I see it there are only two roads that lead to your safer operation. 1. regulation that forces the playing field to change (that way the next scumbag operator can't undercut you). The problem is regulat...

Re: Synthetic vision - BUY IT NOW!!!

While GPWS, EPGWS, synthetic vision etc are all great tools that will and can reduce CFIT accidents they have to be properly incorporated into the pilots scan and thought process. Back when I was flying light twins I use to say IFR flying is usually a 1 1/4 man job. One guy to fly, the quarter guy t...

Re: The Roll Call

Hands down Ron Mcdonald at Algonquin flight center in North Bay (I'm aging myself since both have since passed). Ron was not only a fantastic pilot and instructor but one of the classiest men I ever met. I learnt as much about flying as I did about how to conduct myself in this business and life in ...

Re: What does this do?

Have you tried turning on the flight director without the alt. hold? IE in a descent or a climb and then turning that nob? It is possible that that is what its for, setting a target pitch in the flight director.

You know, it would make it much safer if we just started a petition to remove all residential housing from the island.... for their safety of course.

Re: Single Pilot IFR

Up until about three years ago if the autopilot went u/s then you could just put another IFR pilot in the right seat. Then the rules changed to what has been stated several times above. IE: sop's etc.. The reasoning (as I was told) was that it was quite common to have a single pilot op., the autopil...

How long did it take canada to accept gps approaches? I think the idea of pilotless planes landing at major airports is a way off. Also think of the setup cost, buying new planes or retrofitting old ones, ATC etc. Christ in Canada we are still flying most freight with 727's. How long has it been sin...

With todays Tech. all it would mean is that the pilot would be sitting in an office instead of the A/C. Until things progress a bit I don't see the cost saving. .... Of course I'm just a pilot so maybe there's more to it than I understand.

I think from a safety standpoint you always use all the runway, although I've landed down the runway many times. Just remember depending on what you fly it might be hard to explain how your perfectly serviceable a/c went off the end of a 10'000 foot strip.

At 10:37.5 speed is 100kts cal. This is the max speed attained in the climb.
At 10:38.5 speed is 82kts cal.
at 10:39 speed is 76kts cal. At roughly this point the climb levels off then the a/c starts to decend at gains speed to a max of 101kts cal.

If you look at the climb charts beside the speed charts the (calibrated) airspeed is decaying the entire climb. I would think alot of that origional climb was a trade of speed for climb. Another interesting thing is to look at the max speed (calibrated) that was achieved. I would be interested to kn...

have you ever been in the Winnipeg Esso hangar? Its about 3 Billion degree's , If you pulled an a/c out of there into snow its gonna melt. If its below 0 its going to freeze.

Doc. I tend to agree with your train of thought.

While I agree that alot of icing reports overstate the intensity of ice, on a day where there is icing forcast, a pirep saying its light or non-existant can be very helpful.

The 704 thing is apples and Oranges, its like Medivacs requiring 2 pilots. Its the ops requiring it not the a/c, and you could save the tape and remove the seat. It turns out the thread was crap anyway so not an issue. As a side point I personally think that the 1900 shouldnt be flown single pilot.

What the 1900 and autopilots in the states has to do with Canada is that its still a 1 crew a/c in Canada. It just can't be flown that way without an autopilot IFR. Thats the same with King Airs Navajo's Caravans. It doesnt change that they are certified single crew. If you had a 1900 in Canada with...

The 1900 is flown single pilot in the U.S. quite a bit. The only reason you don't see it in Can. is that we probably don't have one here with an autopilot.

Last year at sim I was asked what I considered an emergency. The long and short of the conversation was, just because the a/c still handles well doesnt mean it will continue to after a drill is completed. If something (like an engine failure) happens you want priority. Why? because unless parts are ...
