Re: Landing a float plane in the rain
Pledge works best on Lexan. Rain-X is good for glass like that on the Norseman. As others have said, when in doubt a glassy water approach will work best. This also applies to skis in whiteout conditions. On rare occasions I remember sticking my head out the window. Rain will be right in your face b...

Can any of you who have worked there or still do offer insight? Is it pretty hard to get on there as a flight follower? Working conditions, pay. Etc. Any intel would be awesome! Thanks As far as I know it's pretty easy to get on. It helps to know someone on the inside of course. As a flight followe...
Re: Why?
It's simple economics people, supply and demand. It the supply of pilots is too large wages go down, not enough and the demand is strong wages go up. Let the market dictate. Wages don't necessarily have to go up. If you lower the experience requirements you increase the pilot supply... so-long pay ...

Commuting from YEG
I've yet to be hired at Air Canada but... as a new hire is it possible to commute from YEG? My girlfriend just moved there for a five year work contract. My present employer would allow me to follow her out there but thinking down the road, what would my life be like living there and working at AC? ...

One of the only posts worth saving here:
Would you kids GROW UP?!!!
There are some valid points being made here but they are overshadowed by this relentless infighting, by top posters too (which only serves to lower their reputation) YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

SGL has a Twin Otter operating right now but it has been placed on a giant pedestal and only a couple pilots were chosen to fly it. The other twins never move so don't come to SGL hoping to fly one. The three Twinstars at SGL are a big joke actually, what other operator buys three brand new aircraft...

I awake to find myself in a (hotel room/crew house) in _____________. I have been here for three weeks with six more to go before I rotate out. I dress myself in the appropriate local attire (shorts/jeans/snow suit) and saunter down to breakfast to enjoy some fresh fruit and cereal while making smal...

Hi Born 2 Fly, SGL normally hires FO's with around 800-1000 hours. Previous survey experience would certainly set your resume apart from others but may not make up for the lack in total time. There is nothing quite like flying international surveys. It's a great way to see the world and the pay is s...

Re: "Rotational" jobs?
With Fugro and Sander Geophysics, you're paid a salary so the "lay off" every 2 or 3 months doesn't apply here. Of course, that's not to say that you wouldn't get laid off if the work dried up, but that's true anywhere. You'll actually find that once you have a bit of survey experience, and a bit o...

Its not exactly island hopping but you could check out Air Niugini or Airlines PNG in Papua New Guinea. Both of these regional carriers operate a number of twin otters. Living and working down there can be quite dangerous at times but it's also very rewarding in terms of the flying experience. I kno...

Re: What would you do?
If I could do it all over again I would take university first and get the pilot's license on the side. Forget about those college programs. They take too long and most flight training units will nickel and dime you the whole way. Your "diploma" will hardly see you manage a lemonade stand let alone a...

How interesting! Did he file an international flight plan and fly "legitimately?" If not, how could he fly so far across the USA and their offshore identification zone without being intercepted or perhaps not even detected? Did he threaten any legitimate flights on the way? Did the FAA's ATC not no...

He's very obviously talented enough to pass all the SIM rides etc. Make him get a licence and put him back in the 73! Thank him for drawing atte...

Yycflyguy is right on the money. I probably didn't make it clear enough in my previous post that the tax benefit is only there if you qualify. It certainly should not be considered to be part of your compensation package. There are a number of pilots here who will not be getting it this year, myself...
