Re: Picking up opentime
The luck of the draw, open system is so strange to me. I’m not looking forward to it. Why not have the ability to list yourself available and then get notifications on open flights. It used to be like this to an extent. The problem was that in some instances there wasn't a lot of transparency. Peop...

Re: Is this a legitimate scenario?????
Where did you get that captain seats are protected during a merger? How about bases too? Bede, seems to think that Sunwing Captains will be position and base protected. Not sure YQB, YUL bases are safe though. WS has not had much luck being accepted by Quebec'ers, so not sure how likely keeping tho...

Westjet is a very young company. Not many retirements. Very different story at AC.

Re: Mainline hiring
The job is good but there are some huge drawbacks. Mostly to do with upgrades. I'm just guessing here but upgrades for new hires are 15 plus years away. A new hire is at the bottom of our senioroty list of curently at 2200 pilots. LOts of retirements to go before you'll get an upgrade. LIfe in the r...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop
Does anyone have an idea how many flight hours a pilot would fly per month at Swoop? Thanks 70-90 hrs depending on how much reserve your assigned. CJet Hey CJet, last question. What type of bidding system do they have? Socialize like mainline? Biding is completely different than mainline. 2 bid opt...

Re: DEC Westjet Swoop
I would be very cautious if I was looking at a DEC spot at Swoop. Lots of uncertainty going forward as to how long you can hold onto that position. Lots of talk about parity with mainline and a rebid for those positions. As a DEC you would not be able to hold onto your left seat due to your seniori...

Doesn't haunt me. I'm losing my position and I'm very happy that the LEC stood up to WJ. I doesn't matter how they won their positions it's irrelevant.

Re: Westjet CYHZ
I’ll disagree with you (and the NTSB in this case). If your aircraft can takeoff on 5,000 ft from 0 kts and you know you won’t make it at the 6K marker, I would go around in a heart beat, if you can conduct a touch and go from (not necessarily in) the landing config. Next time I have sim time in a ...

In my experience at WJ if any pax has vomited on A/C before departure and Medlink has been called pax will be denied boarding. Captain has no choice but to listen to Medlink’s decision.
