Re: PPL "legal" minimum DUAL time

In the course of learning to fly, you're going to spend in aggregate about 60 minutes talking to the guy behind the desk, and 50+ hours in classrooms and in a small metal box with your instructor. Which do you think is more important? Choosing where to learn to fly is 10% about admin, and 90% about...

Re: Air Canada video Interview

I heard there was a second PFO letter out there that did not mention anything about 6 months. I believe that if you got the 6 month version, you're good, they're just not ready for you. If you got the other version of the letter, you might not have the things they're looking for. That's what they t...

however, I prefer BC area. Not a good idea. You will accomplish your training in Winnipeg much quicker Why is that? Flat terrain. More good weather days in a year than in BC. Don't believe any time frame estimates that flight schools promise you. Those are best case scenarios. You should talk to pe...

Re: Private FI in Calgary area. Worth it, or stay with schoo

Essentially there is not much difference between two approaches. Just like FTU instructors, freelancers would follow the same PPL curriculum. What you need is a good and honest instructor and a safe aircraft. The set up of the things is secondary. The reason for 2-hour blocks at most schools is that...

Re: Private FI in Calgary area. Worth it, or stay with schoo

If you are happy now, why change it? What makes you think that a private instructor would never be busy with another student or take a day off, or that the other pilot would not take the plane on a day that you want to fly? As for money saving, it is not guaranteed either. I've seen some people who ...

Re: What makes a good flight school?

1. Airport location: flying at a quiet small airport would translate into hundreds or maybe even thousands of dollars saved at the end of the training. 2. Management that promotes honesty and ethical treatment of students as opposed to viewing students as cash cows. 3. Whether school has experienced...

Re: Great flight instructor to refer Montreal

I could give you a few names, but none of them would be interested in teaching towards a Private licence. Really good instructors are usually quite busy giving advanced instruction. As someone "who've been there and done that" my advice to you is to go to a school that is located at a small airport ...

Re: Most cost-effective way to get Multi-IFR

I highly doubt anyone can teach you both Multi and IFR within 5 hours.
In any case, stay away from big MIFR puppy mill schools. They have programs that they usually stick to. Go to a small school, they would be more flexible and would offer you training customized to your needs.
