Re: Question about a strange floatplane experience
Precidence has been set in court that the pilot in command does not need to be strapped in to the seat of the aircraft while it is running. He may not be advised to do whatever he is doing outside the seat, but he or she is still the pilot in command. That being said, the OP was not detailing anythi...

Nanaimo C-172 on the water...
Friday May 14th, 5 North of Entrance Island there was a C-172 floater registration C-FPAY (old Baker's Narrows Machine) on the water after a dead stick landing. Seems some fuel delivered by Nanaimo rescue solved the problem and he was on his way. From the sounds of the rumours, it looks like Bakers ...

Re: 50 hour course
Incorporating as much float flying as possible into your 200hrs for CPL is a good thing to do if you want to be a seaplane pilot. I think I had around 60 hrs on floats when I finally busted through the 200TT mark... VERY good point made here...during the training phase, schools seem to like to send...

Re: Seaplane rating on the DHC-2 or C180???
Then why is a Beaver so difficult to rent, or even go solo in as part of your endorsement (as was mentioned above)? Remember, it is a business and if it ain't going to have many customers and the numbers don't work, nobody will do it. So, nobody does it. Seaplane Academy is doing it though...go fig...

Re: Beaver down off Saturna island?
PS: I think we're about to see a ressurection of beech 18's here on the coast, wait for it.... Would be nice to see! :D There seems to be a lot of speculation made about this accident. Truly a tragic event...but as time goes on and we are learning from all the mistakes of previous accidents, and we...

You'll have to have a pretty good stretch of wx to pull it off...if the wx is less than ideal then you may end up bunking somewhere you weren't planning to. Better have a cc ready to spend a night in a hotel. If we have another stretch of weather like november, you'll be grounded for a month. I am p...

Not everyone who sees the mistake gets a case of beer...just the first. Sadly, that case of beer was probably paid out a long time ago. Keep trying...I have even found some guys don't pay out!

Re: Vancouver 2010 : Sightseeing float-plane tours banned
Flying out of downtown Vancouver won't be the only problem. Flying out of the river at YVR will be even more frustrating. All the float operators are going to have to deal with one single 60 person per hour security unit to process their passengers. That will include Harbour Air, Westcoast Air, Salt...

Re: DHC2 Operating Costs
BC coastal region charters charge out at $800-1000/hr +GST for a DHC-2. Operating costs are not set in stone as most operators factor in other fixed overheads to the cost of operation and obviously such things as insurance rates differ from operator to operator. Do you have hull coverage? Who is fly...

Re: Seaplane Academy/Fort Langley Air
In this economy even an advanced 50 hour float course is not going to get you a flying job. Right now I know many pilots who have considerably higher time on floats than 50 hours and are unemployed, or at least not working as pilots. It would probably be in your best interest to save your money and...

Re: If you have thought about ATC, but the no income stopped you
After going through the whole process I turned down the IFR positions offered because of the following: 1. self funded move didn't make any sense 2. $3,500 for IFR 3. no pay for 9 to 12 months 4. the uncertainty of actually getting licenced - I had some acquaintences get canned one month prior to ch...

Re: Beaver with broken wing Porpoise Bay
What possible solution could the TBS come up with to prevent another near miss? I guess that depends on the sequence of events that allowed it to happen. I'd like to think other operators and ATS will be given the opportunity to learn something. Did you read the CADORS on it? Maybe there will be so...

Flying on the west coast gets a lot of the "What Island is that?" Question... Pax usually find a map in their lap pretty quickly! :D Q: "How much does it cost to learn to fly?"
