Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
Brick Head You seem so stuck on the idea that having a choice to go past 60 will destroy the present compensation system. The logic is flawed and the math does not follow. With over 3000 pilots, the average age will not change significantly when a few people elect to stay longer. Just as it doesn`t ...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
Just my opinion, but by following the cases, I believe that both groups have won their cases and the remedy phase is in progress. An order for cease and desist is imminent, as is reinstatement for those who have filed cases. I doubt it will apply to anyone who hasn't filed a complaint. I do suspect ...

I have read and reread the CHRA and cannot find that section of the ACT. I don't believe it has that responsibility. Could you direct us to the exact location of proof for your suggestion? The Tribunal has a responsibility to protect deferred compensation systems.

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
60 is not the normal age of retirement in Canada. No other airlines 705,704, or 703 force their people to leave at 60. There are more pilots out there than there are in Air Canada. Even the ones at Jazz go to 65. The first Fly Past 60 guys were hoodwinked by a cunning lawyer with errors (a.k.a. lies...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
Brick head said I wonder if the CHRT would have chosen this route had they seen the financial impact study during the hearings? That study would have sent a very clear message of just how severe the alternatives would need to be in order to preserve the benefit. But as we know that did not happen. T...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
What would make good reading is the Mercer Report produced for Air Canada on the Impact of Age 60 pilots remaining. That would be "GOOD READING". The fact that it is not presented in the Tribunals is significant. You can bet that with the hundreds of thousands or even millions being spent to fight a...

Brickhead, Your eloquent and nicely packaged statement would easily fool a number of readers. Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
We will all be seeing this end very soon. The FAA are allowing domestic pilots over 65 in Canada, as it complies with ICAO as domestic airspace. Canada and the US do not have an over /under rule. 777 RP's are fully trained- there is no BFOR. All 998 other air carriers in Canada do not have problems ...

Re: Mandatory Retirement to be Eliminated in Parliament
Facts: As early as 1986, Canada, having earlier abandoned its National upper age limit on Constitutional grounds, filed a "difference" with ICAO on its age limits, requesting, that the ICAO limits be modified or revoked. ICAO has been looking into increasing age limits ever since. In 1986, the Feder...
