Re: piper pa32 crashed last night near kananaskis village

One of my biggest frustrations training new Pilots is Pilot decision making skills, in particular when they are close to flight test standards. You can pretty much teach anyone the Air exercises but the decision making skills a different thing. I see it was a VFR flight and as I had previously poin...

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/07/world/middleeast/iran-plane-crash-boeing-ukraine.html Of course the Iranians are going to state it was a technical issue. Other unsubstantiated reports are already stating it was mistakenly shot down in the climb by the Iranians. Iran hurling missiles at American b...

Re: Piston versus turbine engines.

By and large; piston engines are the hardest to operate; jets the easiest. And I second the motion about the Garrets on the Turbo Commander: turn the switch to initiate the start sequence. A speed switch triggers ignition and the introduction of fuel; another speed switch disconnects the starter. E...

Re: Plane crash between Medicine Hat and Moose Jaw

This article identifies the aircraft as an AA-IV model. Can a BRS system even be retrofitted to this airframe? Perhaps the initial reports of 'parachute deployed' is also incorrect.

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

Very well stated . It seems that man's superstitions and fears override science and technology . In the end , all politicians ever care about, is votes . Agreed - perfectly phrased karmutzen. Do you have 3 accounts to bolster yourself? Nobody ever agrees on anything here. You played yourself too. O...

Re: Ethiopian Airlines: 'No survivors' on crashed Boeing 737 max

For an astronaut/engineer Garneau is a running dog-lackey to the sway of internet hysteria. He did not specify what "new information" he was processing with his engineer or astronaut "chapeau" on. Vertical profile? That was available from the start with Flight Radar. All my Max pilot buddies, inclu...

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

The proverbial 'needle in a haystack' with the BCAS flight being at the right place, at the right time. Keep in mind that they were actively looking for it. How many random GA flights passing through there would even have thought about what airplanes have crashed and not been found? Is there a data...

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

https://goo.gl/maps/gNR2RxcwFAD2 This is my guess for the location: yes, just off the TCH. I suspect the "structures" are canopy reflections. The reflections totally make sense looking at the photo again. Truly amazing that the wreckage was so close to the highway and just discovered now. A lot of ...

Re: Photos on CBC

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/dominic-neron-ashley-bourgeault-update-1.4818700 It's a testament to the density of BC bush that the wreckage was not visible maybe a hundred metres from the Trans Canada. Is that the Trans-Canada or a secondary highway? There also appears to be a str...

I was reading through old TSB accident reports a few years back and there was another accident in which a pilot was killed when he hit a bale of hay at night during takeoff/or landing.

Another aircraft went down this afternoon SW of Calgary in Kananaskis Country (Rae Glacier area). Aircraft has not been located yet, ELT was triggered. C-130 en-route from Winnipeg to help search.

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

Sadly the search is ending if they are not found today: https://www.castanet.net/news/BC/213157/Search-for-plane-ending It's certainly an eye opener that we have had 2 planes go down in the mountains this year and we have no idea where they are. ELTs are very unreliable, cellphones can't be relied ...

Re: Missing airplane on flight from Penticton to Edmonton

Hello, I had tried posting a question earlier but it I am unsure if it went through or if it wasn't approved by a mod for some reason. Anyways, here we go again. I am seeing a lot of great conversation here about potential location possibilities. Taking all of the environmental factors, plane make ...

Vehicle pulls into the lot just as the aircraft impacts the tree, that would be an interesting scenario.

Re: WestJet almost puts one in the drink

The tower closed the airport apparently for 45 minutes after the near accident. Not sure why. Because the visibility was poor, not because of the low approach/GA. Another 737 that landed just prior to the WJ approach commented to the tower on only picking up the runway 1 mile out. Another carrier (...
