Re: Air Canada's new Business Class? seats..BRUTAL
I was very happy with the old style 'pods' and found them very comfortable for overnight flights. It seems strange that AC has downgraded business class in order to fit in more seats that will attract fewer business travellers. I will avoid the HD 777. Who would suffer one of these seats if they can...

AC would be justified in demanding the same financial concessions that YEG allegedly offered Icelandair.

Re: TSB calls for egress training and shoulder harnesses
The seating configuration used in Beavers on the West coast consists of a middle bench for three pax, and a rear seat for two pax. It is impossible to escape from the rear seat until the middle seat pax exit the aircraft. If the middle seat pax are unconscious or unable to exit the aircraft, the rea...

OK, so rule out AF as well.
Luckily, AC will still have some comfortable planes, just not the new 777s.

Re: Financial Post Article
I assume that the new high density 777s will be used to compete with low cost, low comfort carriers. What full fare passenger would choose to fly on a 458 pax cattle carrier with less seat pitch and width. Even the executive class seats are inferior to the earlier 'pods'. Check the aircraft type and...

Re: Public Investment in Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (
But if there is an economic case to be made for the expansion, I haven't seen it yet. Oh, and if it all unravels and isnt as profitable as expected, its private sector money! I am delighted to learn that the investment would be entirely private money, and I trust that if the hoped-for revenue fails...

I would hope that the decision would not be based on the opinion of six people! But if there is an economic case to be made for the expansion, I haven't seen it yet. Cost estimates, realistic assumptions of increased traffic and passengers, and revenue required for full recovery of costs. Also, who ...

Re: Public Investment in Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (
That is excellent news if indeed no public money will be required to finance the runway extension. But will public money be put at risk? I suppose that the Port Authority will issue a bond to raise the funds. Does the Province insure that bond in order to get a lower interest rate? In any case, the ...

Public Investment in Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ)
Congratulations to Bombardier for a successful first flight of the C-Series. We would all like to see Canadian carriers using the new planes. But does the success of the C-Series really depend on Porter alone. And from YTZ only? Presumably the C-Series could fly from many other Canadian airports wit...

Runway Extension
But isn't Porter the only carrier at present to require a runway extension?
Perhaps if the extension is built, other carriers will be attracted to bring jets into YTZ.

Re: Saltspring Air to Install Popout Windows on Beavers
Well done Salt Spring Air for this first step in improving ease of emergency exit.
Next, could someone please work out a way for rear seat passengers to exit the plane if the middle seat passengers are unable to exit and are blocking the way.

Re: Westjet Troubles Continue
Why is Westjet doing this? They had an adequate standalone reservation system with known running costs. Sure, something like SABRE gives them more exposure and possibly more traffic from interlining. But with unknown additional costs: Changeover costs, re-scheduling flights to connect with other air...

Re: Beaver down off Saturna island?
Please remember that some Beavers are operated with three rows of seating: Pilot and passenger, middle bench (3 pax), and rear seat (2 pax). Ideally both the middle row pax or the rear seat pax should be able to open the main doors. (You never know who will be conscious and able). So the first probl...

Re: Beaver down off Saturna island?
Doors that will open easily underwater would be a great improvement.
But even with doors open, how do the rear seat passengers escape if the middle seat passengers are unconscious and unable to exit?

Re: Beaver down off Saturna island?
As a Beaver floatplane passenger, flying with any operator, there are two things that bother me: 1) Given the importance of weight and balance, how can the pilot be sure of the load unless he weighs each passenger and their baggage? 2) Evacuating the Beaver requires exceptional cooperation from all ...
