Re: Nolinor broken Convair parted out

A good old hand we know was killed when he was under a 747 (I believe), parting it out down in Arizona in the Marana boneyard. He was in the gear, or right next to it. He'd been in aviation for a gazillion years -- but that's what finally got him. So -- the dangers are real, and I wouldn't go near ...

Re: Float Plane Crash Yellowknife - Float Docks

It is so sad to read this news, and I have been trying to figure out what to say since it happened. I'm no closer to knowing what the right words are, so, will just say how very sorry I am for the families, friends and coworkers of those killed. It is a heartbreak that doesn't go away, but you have...

Re: The age issue:

It's the pilot -- not the age. I worked with one guy who was just awesome at 78 -- they finally wouldn't insure him so he "retired" and had to drink his scotch and smoke his cigars at home on his tractor, instead of out behind the tanker base. And another, I get to see again tomorrow as we go back ...

Wow, impressive..

That's pretty cool, to go from the SST, to her final flight in a Tiger Moth.

RIP, Captain.

Re: Scary/Embarassing Mistakes

All good points, here. Trey is right -- in sum, if you continually strive to be as good as the best pilots you know, you will at least be on the right road. After all, none of us will be around long enough to make ALL the mistakes. And who wants to? There is a wealth of information already out ther...

Re: Most important type of flying in aviation?

Well said.

The best teachers (of any kind) never do know exactly how far their influences will reach.

I'm reminded of lots and lots of stories -- but I'll just sum up and say, the positive effects of even one good instructor are immeasurable... and pretty amazing, really.

Re: Training flights with two students onboard: is it worth

It is absolutely worth it, unless all the students now flying suddenly are wealthy, and the cost of instruction doesn't factor any more. It allows the "observer" student to see the maneuvers without the stress of being the one IN the seat, trying to soak it all up at once, at $$Umpteen dollars/hour...
