Re: Gyrocopter training
There is no “Type Rating” for a gyroplane. The back of the Aviation Booklet says GYP gyroplane permit. Much like you don’t need a float rating to fly an ultralight on floats. They are not very mainstream so you have to decide your risk, permit aviation is less restrictive in getting you in the air. ...

Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
I stand by my statement that hiring Canadian pilots VS guys off the street or from another country is the way it should be done. I also take it a step further and pilots who have been in the CF even as an NCO should definitely get the top priority over foreign pilots and even untrained OTS. Here is ...

Re: Emirates after AC
In the 90's the median income in Canada would afford you a detached house and two late model cars in the driveway. To be able to afford those assets as easily now you would need to make $400k, perhaps even more. Son is 32, he is a plumber. He owns a 4 bedroom house on a 1/4 acre lot in town. Parked...

Re: Emirates after AC
,^ agreed. The one that gets me is the Ontario vehicle safety regime. How many accidents are caused by private vehicles having too much rust on them? None. Yet it's nearly impossible to get a used vehicle safetied anymore. What this does is force people to buy new driving up the price of all vehicl...

Re: Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
I’m about 99% sure Tony is not just a “professional pilot program”. Cygnet is but the other 2 are regular FTUs. What’s “less optimal”? Going up the road or dealing with KFC…. Especially if you only want to fly occasionally…. Maybe you are someone KFC does not like or you are too picky/ know it all a...

Re: Flight Instructor needed - Kingston, Ontario
Definitely more than just the Kingston Flying club there. No “ “instructors”that have an FTU so unless you go buy a plane go deal with one of the two schools on the field or get in your car and hit the highway. Lots of other places within a few hours.

⸻ It amazes me that people still take the CPI or the “2% inflation” narrative seriously. The only metric that really matters is purchasing power — what your income can actually buy you. Isn't purchasing power tied to the CPI, or are you referring to another metric? BTW excellent comments Red Comet,...

Dub Jay taking over Transat would be a game-changer. On paper, it makes sense: overlap in Europe/leisure markets, great way to get more widebodies, and stronger east-west coverage. Basically, it would create a Canadian leisure travel powerhouse. However annother monopoly…. Canada doesn’t shy away fr...

Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
I fail to understand the comment about “the CF having tons of applicants so they can be picky” if they need to hire people from another country…. Training delays? So you come to the CF and just jump into a seat? No check ride or training on how the CF does it? Lots of folks have previous CF experien...

Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
This mentality that RCAF pilots are somehow “better than the rest” really needs to stop. The idea that civilian pilots can’t be trained to the same standard—or would be inherently subpar—is nonsense. The fact is, the very initial flight training where military pilots learn how to fly is delivered b...

Re: RCAF looking overseas to fill pilot shortage
The Canadian Forces’ reliance on hiring foreign-trained pilots highlights a deeper issue: the role simply isn’t attractive enough to Canadians who already hold citizenship. For many abroad, Canadian citizenship itself carries significant value, but that should not be a recruitment draw. Instead, the...

Re: ANR headset for 737 NG/Max
The Bose QC and the Ufly Mike is the only way to go. Get some actual use out of your headset beyond the cockpit. Got a DH with a screaming child, doing walk around, driving your tractor in the field. Does everything you need up front plus in the back without looking like a dork. Sorry but air pods ...

Re: Talent Pool CL-415
You can put up with a lot of shit for the right money. If you could make $180,000 plus might be able to take it. Captains can make all of 10-15 grand more then an FO. Sure some senior captains make 120-130 but they are in the training dept and take the overtime, overtime for what is usually your day...

Talent Pool CL-415
Let’s give prospects a bit of insight. 5 people quit this year…. First off as a pilot group we should avoid this employer until they increase wages. Search “ pilot” on the salary disclosure website. You will make about 85-90 as an FO and you will just crack 100 as a captain with overtime until you a...

Re: Pilot shortage …? Reality or fake news ..
There is definitely a shortfall of qualified pilots due to the conditions of the industry. I have a hard time reading this “they can’t get people due to low pay….” This was never an issue up until aboot 2016. A lot of pilots signed bonds and stepped on the next guy just to get to Jazz … in your 30/4...

Re: College of Professional Pilots
What we need is an association, not a body to take over licenceing. We don’t need people handing out punishments or doing investigations. We need people to help us with good “guidelines” (as opposed to rules or regulations) to guide the aspiring pilots. The Canadian Association of Professional Pilot...

Re: RCAF reserve as a second job
In order to wash out one must first apply. Being a pilot in the CF is secondary to to being an officer. I have a CD, jump wings and do not wish to be a pointy head but thanks. Time at the controls means just that, actual logable time. If you have 20 years and 2000 hours your about as skilled as a PP...

Re: Saskatchewan Provincial Park Restrictions for Float Planes
That’s exactly what I said Bede. They can not make a regulation on the Take-off and Landing of plane. The take-off and landing and where and where not a plane can do this is the “core” of aviation. The service of alcohol provincial laws would only apply while the aircraft is on the ground. It would ...

While Air Canada may not have wanted you, there are several smaller operators who had you had the qualifications might have looked at you. Just like the CF attitude, not a lot of operators want x military guys. The Canadian military and flying are severely disconnected. Maybe one day we can all just...

Digits I don't know what would hold up in court. That would depend on the contract, your ability to understand and argue it and the judge. But they will most likely come after you and if you don't defend yourself you have to pay up. If that's a risk you would want to take.... well that's totally up ...

Re: Saskatchewan Provincial Park Restrictions for Float Planes
Provincial governments can not technically make regulations on the landing and take off of an aircraft. Bodies of water no matter where they are, are also the sole jurisdiction of the federal government. National parks are another story because they are administered by the Federal Government and the...
