Re: FAA ATP ACM Conversion Exam
I took the exam 4 years ago. I had a calculator, but don't recall if I used it... possibly once or twice, but nothing cosmic. The exam is 60 questions and covers more than just the "differences". I signed up for Sheppard Air prep course Sheppardair.com I went through the question bank multiple times...

Re: Landing at night before the lighted displaced threshold
//edit: looks like you can during the day after all in Canada http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/viewtopic.php?t=78839 Are you referring to Whiskey25's bolded quote in the third post? For what it's worth, that section of the AIM was changed a few years ago and no longer stands as quoted. It has changed...

Re: Spec Vis Departure
It's been a long time since I've flown anything that was climb gradient limited, but if the departure has a climb gradient that is greater than standard you will have the option for Spec Vis departure. A Spec Vis departure allows you to manoeuvre overhead the airport (or via specified route) to an a...

Re: IS TRANSPORT CANADA OPEN?
FWIW, I called TC PAC Region, left a message and then sent a follow up email and had call back within 1 hr. I was referred to another number where I left a message and I had a call back within 20 mins. I only needed clarification on some licensing issues and didn't actually require any action from T...

Re: American companies
I converted my TC ATPL to FAA ATP in 2018. There were 4 new hires going to one of the feeder airlines who were on the CTP course (mandatory for FAA ATP). The 4 guys were all hired and had to complete the CTP course and finish their ATP exams prior to starting in house training at their respective ai...

Re: Flight Instructors - What is important?
I don’t understand why anyone who wants to be a pilot should spend any time - certainly not a second longer than they need to - as a flight instructor. Not for any amount of money. They’re entirely different jobs, or should be. It’s completely dumb that time spent instructing counts towards airline...

Re: Convert TC ATPL to FAA ATPL
When I did the CTP there were 2 new hires for a regional carrier. They were both hired without the ATP and their company paid for and sent them on the course prior to starting training. They were already US citizens, so the first thing you need to do, is ensure you are legally entitled to work in th...

Re: Convert Canadian ATPL to FAA
A little more information from when I converted my TC to FAA. There is no way around the CTP course; ANY pilot who wants an FAA ATP must take the course, including all US citizens. When I did the course, there were a number of new hire pilots for US Regional airlines who were completing the CTP prio...

Re: Convert Canadian ATPL to FAA
The process is a lot more cumbersome since they changed the regs in 2014. If you already have an ATPL the CTP course will seem more like a week of frustration and boredom. The course does absolutely nothing to prepare you for the exams, it is simply a new FAA requirement in order to get the licence. ...

Re: Convert TC ATPL to FAA ATPL
As to your other question, there's not a lot of value to this course depending on your experience and background. I think it's intended to give a 1500hr pilot some knowledge and sim exposure for flying a jet (ie high altitude perf and stalls).

CAE Dallas. I think the cost is approx $5K USD, should be able to find it on the website. Flight Safety also runs the course at some of their training centres, I assume the cost is similar.

Jet Test? Jet Center? Can’t remember the name, but it’s on on the authorized testing center list from the FAA. Located In Dallas, right near DFW.

Re: Written FAA ATP Exam
FYI for those planning to convert to FAA, the conversion exam is now 60 questions. I used Sheppard Air to study and it was very good, finished the exam in about 30-35 mins with a full review of all questions. If you haven't done any FAA exams, they are multiple choice with 3 options to choose from. ...

I’m finishing the CTP course Sunday and then writing the FAA ACM exam on Monday. Pay for the Sheppard Air course to prep for the exam; all the instructors have recommended it to get ready.

Re: Aim to be a zero - Chris Hadfield
Don’t confuse aiming to be zero with goals and ambitions. Col Hadfield definitely aims to be a +1 when it comes to achieving the goals he has set for himself... fighter pilot, astronaut. He knew what he wanted to do in life and he mapped out his path and applied all the +1 that he was capable of to ...
