Re: Weekend Annuals.
Ifly, what make of borescope works well for your typical small lyc/continental? I've tried a couple different cheaper units but image quality and positioning of the camera is almost impossible (o-200 cylinder).

Re: "Any conflicting traffic..." Is A Stupid Thing To Say
I was wondering what the Colonels thoughts would be on radiotelephony procedures so I did a quick site search and dug up this gem. If I was God (or Merlin Preuss - I am told God must answer to Merlin Preuss) I would require a new TSO be enacted for all PTT switches, applicable to all certified...

Re: I hate oil filters
I just bought a runout O-300 that has 3000 hours since factory reman, 1900 hours since MOH, and it just had the original oil screen setup. Crank still measures new limits and no other part in there showed anything but normal wear. My current engine has an STC'd filter adapter and its a leaky POS tha...

Is it parked at Airdrie? Unfortunately not Beef. And a few days ago I went to check up on it and found that it's surrounded by 3 foot snow drifts and has 2" of ice on all the critical surfaces. The price of neglect I suppose, but with our nice winter last year I wasn't prepared for what happened th...

I hear what you're saying Robert, but maybe it's better in forums to be told without reservation that your idea sucks or whatever. I've asked a few AME's around here a similar question to the guy in the that other thread you're referring to, and you can tell that they are holding back to spare my fe...

Basically my understanding is that he is going to move the prop ccw two bolt holes from its current position. It's a vibration that starts around 2000 rpm and is pretty much gone by 2450-2500. Personally I think it is prop/engine balance issue but both mags are getting overhauled this go round as we...

Re: Carburetor Icing
Good tips on carb ice, especially this time of year with the ambient temps where they are. Thanks Colonel. Your postscript really got my attention though. My O-300 runs rougher than the lyc O-320 im used to flying behind, I just had the exhaust valve guides reamed so I'm pretty sure its not valve(s)...

Re: The best model C-172
Looks nice but it's $77k. I aint no dokter. I kinda gathered that, but were you not hypothetically considering a restart 172 for 100K or so earlier on? Ok, if I'm allowed to I'll throw in a vote for an early 172. Just bought a 57 for under 30K. Just one Com radio, Mode C, carries 800 lbs, and...

Re: Battery charging/sulphation question
Google led me to a "magnalabs" page explaining a technology that they are currently working on. Apparently they say the sulfur crystal's natural frequency is 3.26 Mhz. As Azimuth pointed out my confusion was that this was a technology already out in currently available chargers; agreed that it sound...

Battery charging/sulphation question
I've been looking at buying a battery charger/maintainer for my rv (not a deep cycle) and for my plane. Battery sulphation seems to be a common issue, I basically know what is going on here but I have a question. Some chargers are capable of reducing sulphation by inducing a signal that matches the ...

HST due?
Hey, I'm an Alberta resident looking to purchase an aircraft located in Ontario (private deal), it will be registered here in Alberta of course but I'm wondering if I have to pay the extra 13% HST? I can't seem to find any info regarding my exact scenario, at least tax jargon that I can understand. ...

After reading the comments on this thread I hope that all this stuff is due to the economic situation and is only temporary. But I can't help but be nervous about buying an aircraft after being enlightened to these issues. Down the road I hope I don't have to resort to buying an x punch, hammer, lab...

Re: Annual Inspection and Maintenance for Owners
I'm not a fan of the comparison of automotive vs aircraft maintenance expenses, simply because in 9 years owning a 4 x 4 truck (and 250,000 k) I might be approaching 20 hours of shop time in maintenance/repair. A fixed gear single should take 20 hours for a snag free annual as far as I understand si...
