Re: Transat got a sweet deal
Before the shutdown order TRZ had zero debt and over $500m in liquid cash. Plus the $18 per share takeover bid from AC. It was the govt's own disproportionately long and detrimental response to Covid that dug this huge hole in the first place. As a note, that $1.5b figure includes lease liabilities...

Re: Which airline offers the least amount of flying?
Generally if your airline has pass-down on reserve, as all majors do, if you have decently high seniority you can bid reserve and then rarely fly. You'll actually have to take the occasional flight or go into the sim for recency. Doesn’t work so well with the ‘best fit’ system that we have at WJ. V...

Re: Updated salary tables 2024
That’s a good question that I do not have an answer for. One would have to go through every single airline. Maybe there’s another wj pilot on here that’s willing to do that leg work:). I was thinking more along the line of CA questions.

Re: Updated salary tables 2024
Thanks for putting the table together.
Small suggestion to consider…..Since Porter’s rates are effective Jan 1, Wj’s rates should also reflect their pay increase on Jan 1.

Re: Should WJA get rid of AR (age +65 pilots) ?
Westjet should do a lot of things to modernize their day to day operations. Get rid of the AR program, change their SOPs to Boeing and let the pilots do their own weight and balance using the Boeing onboard performance App. The latest SOP modifications as a result of the merge have been amazing!! H...

Well....Bud.... I put the caveat "that I am aware of," better check your reading comprehension. I am sure if you dug around over the last couple of decades there (might ?) be one, end of the day the hiring is a one way street. We did have two brainiacs quit in the middle of the 737 Sim course and g...

Re: Air Canada is Not WestJet
I strongly oppose negotiating in the media but the point of this video is very true. AC always wants to compare us to WJ when it suits them. Bottom line is there is a hierarchy and AC is at the top for Pilots. There has never been (that I am aware of) an AC Pilot quit and go to WJ, yet we have hire...

Re: Transat or Porter?
Good morning, I'm currently a corporate pilot and looking to jump to the airlines. Home based with my employer now but basically away up to 16 days a month. I'm torn between an F/O position on Porter's E2 or Air Transat's A321/A330 if offered a position. Both options are appealing to me with each h...

2023 earnings
Every year on Airline Pilot Central, there is a thread with total earnings for pilots. I thought I would start one here so pilots in Canada know what their counterparts around our country are making. Transparency between pilots will only help us all. Year 12 WestJet 737 Captain. Live in base. Did on...

Re: Continuing to serve in the military after moving to the airlines
What are Canadian airline operators policies like towards pilots serving in the military reserves or returning to active duty, particularly as pilots? For example, if the employee takes a leave of absence for training/exercises/deployments? I know it's pretty common for RCAF pilots to leave for the...

Re: Transat-Porter joint venture
I think this is probably the best move for both companies allowing them to leverage each others strengths. The only concern I’d have is scope for either company and what happens if down the road with that. We don't fly the same routes besides the tiny bit of domestic we do to move planes around and...

Re: Air Canada vs WestJet
I think it comes down to a cost of living. If you want to own a home and don’t want to commute. Westjet in Yyc. If commuting is fine, AC. Otherwise if you want to rent forever, AC in YYZ, YVR or YUL. Although home prices are still somewhat accessible in Montreal from what I’ve heard. Or you can bui...

Further to what has been stated within this thread, the csp program is/was a loan to the company. As such, in the event the corporation goes into Ccaa, the employee becomes an unsecured creditor. The corporation was getting money loaned by their pilots, and since the ror on the loan was quite low re...

Deployment pay
Hi there,
Can a Sunwing pilot give a breakdown on how much one would typically make monthly on a foreign deployment as well as break it down ( salary, per diem, etc)? Pm if preferred.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Sunwing Pilots file bad faith complaint with CIR
The most important thing in a contract is pay and schedule. The rest is fluff. Agreed rudder. We’ll be ALPA for sure. Could not disagree with the above statement more. $500/ hourly rates and twenty days off per month is useless with zero scope protection. Many pilots in Canada do not understand wha...
