Re: Class 4 instructor hourly rate

If I was instructing, I'd go to the GM -- not the CFI, but someone with authority -- and say look. I will network like crazy, in any way I could, and bring in new business. But for every student I bring in who starts training, I want to be given 2 or 3 walk ins. It's fine and dandy to demand studen...

Re: Class 4 instructor hourly rate

Shiny, I've read your comments and disagree. Dangerous pilots, don't just kill themselves. They kill other innocent victims, like the pilot after them in the aircraft they (hidden) damaged, or passengers. (Remember them?) People on the ground. What about dangerous AME's? Do you renounce responsibil...

Re: Class 4 instructor hourly rate

My example ...again --- was precisely applicable to willful negligence and a complete lack of integrity, such as lying, stealing, and not reporting a safety issue on an aircraft- ie. damage that employee caused. Tell me, Shiny, or BPF, that has never, ever happened, with any instructor you've ever ...

and drop the communist hatred of every employer out there. That attitude makes me sick. Please. You're actually making your case worse. You sound like every bad employer or bad manager I've ever had to deal with. PF is wholly correct in calling you out on what should be called out on especially giv...

Re: Class 4 instructor hourly rate

Their attitude towards threatening their "troublesome" employees with blacklisting is a fair indicator. There is a bright side, if not to paint too bleak of a picture to a potential employee in that all the times I've been threatened to be "blacklisted" in this business has been a completely empty ...

Re: Class 4 instructor hourly rate

Rookiepilot is right...most business owners warn each other about lying/stealing employees if they hear the douchebag is looking for work at their competitor. They're still really careful about it Cpn, I'd say the straight stuff only gets passed on to those where you know its not going to come back...

Re: Class 4 instructor hourly rate

If an employee --in the industry example I quoted -- say returned a known damaged aircraft without fully reporting it, lied or decieved me about it, yes I would blacklist that person. They would never work for me again, and I would tell my all friends in the business, too. Your answer here still in...

Re: Class 4 instructor hourly rate

I've run a business for 20 years. Have you had to manage employees during any of those? If you have, you'd know that your "blacklisting" policy could run you into a heap of legal trouble. Nevermind the fact threatening it as a matter of "encouraging" good behavior usually has the opposite effect. J...

Re: Student flight time at PPL flight test - data

The free market that governs the style that flight training is conducted isn't required to offer one said choice, so expect to pay more if you wish such a service.

Re: Student flight time at PPL flight test - data

To me the cause of the steady increase is obvious. More and more training in this country is geared towards mass production of pilots. It no longer matters being efficient getting a PPL since its often viewed that "hours are hours" towards the end goal of the CPL. Stack on top of that the fact that ...

Re: Learning to fly in a taildragger: historical

The reason that the C172 sold so well in the stone-age was because of the hype put on it by Cessna's sales department! Who wouldn't want a "modern" all metal airplane with "land-o-matic" landing gear for $9000.00 So you're saying that pilots back in the day were so dimwitted that they believed Cess...

Re: Learning to fly in a taildragger: historical

Regarding instruction back in the day vs today. Maybe it was better, maybe not. But what can certainly be said, is that you can not be complacent in a tail dragger...thus tail wheel instructors must pay more attention to detail and they must teach how to properly fly the aircraft in the cleanest ma...

Re: Calgary Flight Training 2017

If one was to make this the "southern alberta flight training thread, you could include SuperT in Medicine Hat, and Excel in Lethbridge, the latter of which has a Piper based fleet for those looking to try something different. There is also of course Cu Nim, if you don't like engines on your flying ...

The current working time is 90 days. Before anyone gets up in arms, the FAA's working time is 120 days. The lesson here being that if you think something is bad, it can always be worse. ;)

I think O'Leary said that Europeans will crawl backwards naked over broken glass for cheaper air fares. I suspect Canadians will too. They may complain a lot more about it, but they will still buy the tickets.

Re: Proposed airport privatization will drive up costs for travellers, say CEOs

Rockie, The possibility of bankruptcy is exactly what imposes discipline on the private sector, and what is missing in the public sector. Hardly. See Michel LeBlanc. Either way, I think someone has mentioned the experiment of a privatized airport? Seeing as though its something I have direct experi...
