Re: Looking for a paved runway for a day of testing
The old Dunnville (CDU9) airport is now closed. That is where they film Canada's Worst Driver... I have no idea who is responsible for the site now but you could do it there and not worry about having to deal with an active aerodrome.

Re: Realistic expectations: age 42 with past lasik surgery?
The LASIK should not be a big deal as long as there are no side effects (halos, starbursting, etc). You might want to look into getting a Category 1 medical now, there might be some follow up paperwork for an ophthalmologist so it could take a little time, but again, I wouldn't expect any issues. Be...

Re: Instrument Proficiency Check
A PPC "counts" as an IPC and can be entered in your licensing booklet competencies section as an IPC. If an operator wants you to have a recent IPC before being hired, I would presume it is because they are concerned about spending extra money in training and want everyone to be confirmed at a certa...

Re: PPL "legal" minimum DUAL time
The more important question to ask a school is to show you a syllabus about how they will use that time to train you. I suspect the 17/28 school doesn't have a proper plan in place which means you'll just be blowing in the wind accumulating more hours. I would suggest picking a school that can show ...

Re: Freelance instruction
If you are training towards a commercial license because you want to be a professional pilot, a flight school will issue you a TL11B so that you can use your flight training expenses as tuition (equivalent of a tuition receipt T2202A from a college/university). Since the freelancer does not own a sc...

Re: Supplementing Canadian Flight Training with US FTU
I believe it would "count" as total flight time, but not towards the minimum "training time" required under the CARs; unless the operator held a TC FTU OC and the instructor a Canadian Instructor Rating. Since few people complete training in the minimum amount of time, it's probably not an issue at ...

Re: Porter Schedule
When you start you will get a mix of reserve and some pairings; the intent of which is not to let anyone go too long between flying days in order to maintain proficiency. You can bid whatever you like from day 1 as there is no differentiation between reserve and blockholders, you'll simply get weene...

There is really no effect on boating traffic under the proposed changes over what is in place now:

Re: Class 2 Instructor Ride
I've been told this is the most failed ride. Reason being that we know you better be good at PGI and teaching air exercises by this point; but few people think about how they will supervise others. So, expect the examiner to focus on your supervision skills. The Class 2 will allow you to be a CFI ev...

Bad link. But I think what you are looking for is:
Service Design Pilot: Fly a desk 9-5, work with industry to ensure NavCanada is delivering desired service.
Flight Inspection Pilot: Go on the road for 4 days at a time and fly approaches over and over again.

Re: instructor renewal rides in London?
There are some Pilot Examiners that can do instructor renewals. If you call TC they can give you the names and phone numbers. Many of them will come to your airport.

Re: How do you know which SID, STAR, Runway you gonna get??
33L and 33R do not have the lateral separation requirement for simultaneous approaches, so it slows things down. I believe the CFS says that they will not switch to those runways until a 25 knot crosswind is present on the 6's/24's.
