Re: Marijuana Poll

Legality shouldn't come into this discussion. Anyone else have speeding points on their license? The way I see it, working for airlines (especially regional) is gonna become ever more stressful. Low pay, over-worked, divorces etc etc, people will often seek a crutch to relax. Just make sure whatever...

Re: Unrealistic Portrayals of Aviation in Movies

I seem to remember a plethora of goofs in Die Hard 2. The best of which had to be the baddies "lowering the glideslope" so an aircraft crashed, despite having broke out. Oh, the manhole cover in the runway was a funny one too.

Latest I heard today is that the Ant 124 will be here on the weekend. The 225 won't be making another appearance.

No it's just south of the terminal by the Air Canada cargo building, and where Air Canada does all their deicing.

Worry not Beef, it's not scheduled to depart until Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how they manage to fit it onto Apron 2 tonight along with a B747-800, a 727 and 767!

Re: Does KD Air stand for Kraft Dinner?

I can't believe no one jumped on this either, I was expecting a post right away!

It's one thing being paid $24K to put the flaps up in a Metro, quite another to be burdened with the responsibilities that come with SPIFR for such a meagre salary.

the direction they are heading now looks to be one that is not beneficial to their students. Hopefully things will straighten out in the next couple of years. Exactly. Being forced to work weekends in their hangar for free, or free labour at the Saddledome handing out beers is hardly beneficial to ...

Re: Multi-IFR time vs VFR Multi Pic time

Rapid you're talking about hiring an FO correct? They will learn about weather, ice etc. on the job. Flying IFR isn't rocket surgery and if they have plenty of hours behind them they'll pick it up before long! Heck, the Europeans have 200hr wonders as FOs on jets. Most companies realize this, and wa...

it will be the only twin that will have a bird strike from behind  Haha glad you liked my joke on the radio! Yeah total waste of money, kinda like the whole program has become. $300k each for 172s and then whatever those POS Tecnams cost - probably 3 times the cost of a decent, known-ice Seneca!

Re: Flight instructing vs Working the ramp. Doesn't add up?

If you've gone down the Flight Instructor route instead and spend a couple of years at an FTU you will probably meet the TT requirements, but still be way short on Multi-time for most job postings. So don't expect to get a flying job around the popular locations. Look at places where most people do...

While I know of some great guys who have gone the system at Carson, you are being whored out and are being made an example of. Not sure why any one would settle for a job like this, but then again, I don't know why I settled for making 1000 bucks one winter month as an instructor, where even on KD ...

Re: Simulated cross country?

I wonder also if it propogates out of a group mentality - i.e. the student hears other people saying any conflicting please advise, and does so themselves (similar to a catch phrase). Exactly. My other current pet peeve that somehow became common parlance "...request taxi to the active for circuits...

Around Calgary there's a couple of schools who seem to use it as reference to a specific departure route from the control zone. Another annoying FTUism, on a par with "any conflicting traffic blah blah"

Why are you buying a job? Perhaps he has assurance of a job in Asia. Buying a TR is pretty standard in Europe, or any part of the world lacking GA where pilots cannot build hours. It's certainly not "buying a job" - considering the shitty money he'd earn as an instructor or turboprop FO in Canada i...

Re: Office/ramp work to FO question

Not sure about CMA but I've heard Sim Evals are used at some other companies when an FO seat opens up. You're right, after a couple of years working the ramp your instrument skills will be pretty dismal, so you'd have to book a few hours in a Redbird somewhere with an instructor. Two words: GO NORTH!

Not suggesting that Devon can't fly, but he sure can't instruct and he could learn a few things about how to handle a cockpit. +1 from what we've seen on the screen. Guess it makes good television to fly through thick smoke, saw 9,000' on their altimeter...these birds used to fly the hump back in the day so not sure why Devon wouldn't climb up a few thousand to escape the worst of it. Heck, he could even wind the altimeter down to say 13,000 for the cameras as t...

Re: The long down winded spiral of Instrument Time

IFR and IMC are both defined. They are not the same. If you are applying IFR (that’s in compliance with number of rules that apply to the way you conduct your flight), then that is IFR, regardless of whether or not you are in IMC (a defined term used to describe certain wx conditions with regard to...

Re: The long down winded spiral of Instrument Time

At the TC office in Calgary stuck to the front desk "So you want an ATPL?" - This offers guidelines on getting your log book ready. It specifically states instrument time is "IN OR ABOVE CLOUDS". Pretty clear what their interpretation is here in Calgary. Now obviously they can pull up METARs from yo...
