An engine failure is an emergency. PAN PAN or MAYDAY does the exact same thing- it shuts everybody up and gives you priority on the airways immediately. An engine failure could just be the beginning of a real bad day.

Anyone who wouldn't make one of those calls is foolish. Never be proud, be safe..

Why are some of you guys soo worried about an ILS being offline in YTH?? Two or three years ago YWG only had non-precision approaches for several days... life goes on.

You can still write you "A's" if you are still flying.... you only need 750 total time to write them.... and then acquire the remainder of your flight time requirements within the following year... an IFR ride within that year will also be needed to validate you ATPL licence.

CID: a cell phone does not transmit on frequencies that interfere with avionics. They're talking about R.C.vehicles and such.... and of course, it has to be "intentional interference".

I always use my cell phone when the radio will not suffice.

Can't remember where I read it, but all my IFR logged time is counted as 10% actual 'in cloud' time. T.C. approved this with my ATPL. Anyone who counts all the minutes that they are in cloud on IFR legs is wasting their time.
