2021 numbers are not a useful metric. What was the AC CEO’s compensation in 2019?

Re: IFR avionics TSO for homebuilts

As photofly has pointed out, none of the equipment needs to be TSO, but then it’s up to you to show that it meets the requirements for IFR when you request the VFR restriction removal. Each time I have had a client questioned by a TC inspector, we were able to get an email from the manufacturer sayi...

Re: How long do airplane tires last?

30+ years ... if kept inflated. If they are sitting around at 10 pounds most of the time and only inflated at annual, not nearly so long. Even without wear and UV damage most tires don't last more than seven years because of neglect. I would never change a tire by rule of thumb. Change it when it is...

Re: Aviation officer questions

I think basically the OP wants to move into the Air Force from the Army. There are a couple CF pilots on this board, hopefully they will chime in.

Re: Plane upgrades before starting IFR training

As a minimum you'll want a Garmin GPS175 and a G5 added. That still leaves you with only one radio and an old one at that and you're already over budget.

What's the nav indicator for the KX155?

Which province are you in?

Re: Freelancing

Insurance has been mentioned. You will want to become familiar with CAR 625 Appendices B and C and make sure that the owner has done all the required maintenance. A guy came out here last month to do some training and after a couple flights discovered that the student's plane was out of annual by a ...

Re: Employee with PPL flying for the Company

When I was a CPL working for a non aviation company and the subject of using an airplane for getting out to Maidstone I called TC and asked them about it. The inspector walked me through the rules so that I understood what was and was not legal.

Re: Employee with PPL flying for the Company

For a while he was the chief pilot :). Theoretically I suppose any PPL in the company with the requisite skill and willing to pay for their own training would have been welcome to fly when they happened to be on board.

Re: Employee with PPL flying for the Company

Out of interest - the PPL holders flying for a 604 operation - were they the owners of the aircraft (and operation) or flying for someone else? The TBM and the jet were owned by the individuals in question. The King Air was owned by a public corporation and the CEO would usually fly it when he was ...

Re: Employee with PPL flying for the Company

I don't think you can elect to have a 604 operation. Either you have a private aircraft that's big enough to require one, or you're not eligible. I don't think there's any element of choice about it. Of course you can voluntarily try to abide by all the 604 requirements for a small plane, but you d...

There are actually a lot of highly qualified and experienced PPLs out there, they just don't hang out here.

Yes. There's nothing about flying a TBM 900, a King Air 350, or a Citation that requires a CPL. I've seen PPLs flying all of those.

Re: Employee with PPL flying for the Company

Well I've seen that exact situation many times and it never raised eyebrows. This was a 604 operation though which has pretty high requirements. If any of my friends and family were in a situation where the company 421 or 182 was being flown by a private pilot I would absolutely tell them to refuse ...
