Re: XC planning and map marking
If you're going to use those Frixion (erasable) highlighters, don't leave your map in the plane on a hot day. I was warned that it's the heat generated by the friction that erases it so your track lines can disappear if left in the sun.

Re: Typical instructor salary
Does anybody know of instructors that teach part time while working another full-time job? Just a curiosity thing. I imagine it would be tough to commit, but could it be done? I tried that. Found that I wasn't available when pilots-in-training wanted to fly. It looked awful to have so many days blo...

Re: Online Instructor Ground School
I didn't use an online course but one book I found extremely helpful was Instructor Prep by Dale Neilsen. It's written really simply and has lots of good (applicable) information in one place.

Re: Flight Training in Atlantic Canada
There is a flight school in Fredericton, NB that has a joint BBA-Aviation training program with UNB-F. They'll do only flight training as well if that is what you're interested in. It's Capital Airways (http://capitalairways.com/) They have two 172's (2000 and 2006, the 06 has the garmin 1000 glass ...

Re: Advice on Flight School around Vancouver Area
Welcome Learner! Gaamin gave some really great advice. Though I haven't looked around much at other schools in the Vancouver area, I have been to some in different areas of the country and can tell you that Pacific Rim Aviation Academy at Pitt Meadows is the best I've seen. (just happens to be where...

Top Gear is so good!
Today I watched the one where May (with Hammond in the back seat) flies a 182 and races Clarkson in a Bugatti Veyron from Northern Italy to London.
Guess who wins.

Re: University Degree vs College Aviation Diploma
I think Metal was being sincere and raising a good point. Losing your Cat 1 means no more commercial flying and no more paycheck. And the circumstances for losing it aren't always "extremely rare". It's not a bad idea to know you have a way to support yourself if flying can no longer. And to answer ...

Re: University Degree vs College Aviation Diploma
The University of New Brunswick has a good aviation program. You can get a degree in business administration while getting your CPL, night, multi, IFR. Depending on what you want from it, the program can be 2-4 years. Both the university and the FTU are excellent. Though I don't intend to use my deg...

Re: Forced Approach Tips
Since you mentioned that you've practiced the "circuit" procedure, I thought I would mention another trick I was taught for forced landings: if you notice you're still coming in a bit high once you've turned your base, extend it. no, you won't be square but you can bleed off some altitude in the lon...

No, they're not set up like that. I too feared that before I wrote it but they are independent.
Good luck!

The University of New Brunswick has a couple aviation programs through their College of Extended Learning. Though it is a little late to be applying, you might be able to work something out.

Can anyone recommend an instructor rating course in New Brunswick (besides MFC), Nova Scotia or the Vancouver area?
Thanks!
