I know almost nothing of either Air Georgian or an RJ, but I knew of a time when a serious question would never illicit responses like this. Shame on you.

Re: HF Radio opps ?

Hey GGCC, Amateur Radio is an interesting hobby I'm sure. Just to answer your question though, I wouldn't think most pilots would be monitoring other non-ATC radio sites, at least not while they are flying. Many jets have SELCAL, which notifies them with a chime alert when ATC is attempting to conta...

Re: United Airlines pilot in Aztec downing off of Bahamas . . .

From the "Sentinel" - The Pembroke Pines man almost took the flight. Instead Richard Compton spent Christmas Day anxiously awaiting word on the fate of his brother and cousin who were aboard a small plane that disappeared Thursday near the Bahamas. Travis R. Compton, 44, a commercial airline pilot w...

Re: Dash 7 choices...

I remember seeing a full-performance landing (albeit without payload) that couldn't have been more than a 800' foot rollout. Incredibly short for an aircraft of that size! Overseas, I once watched a Dash 7 crew fly a take-off with an oversized payload. It was a much longer takeoff from what I had be...

Things in the middle east should spark up over the next year or so. In 2 weeks, Benjamin Netanyahou will come to power with his coalition government.

He is a hawk, and takes few prisoners. ... and BTW IRAN ... Look out!! 8)

Re: Family Issues: What is the effect on your aviation career?

I'm a married corporate/charter pilot with a young family. I work several trips to various countries each month.

This is a very good job for a family guy with quite a lot of time spent at home! I also get to help with the housework & cooking. Bonus!!!! :P

Re: Oil rig chopper down at sea

CBC radio news (St. John's) saying that the vessel OSPREY , has conducted a sonar sweep and concluded that the bottom is relatively flat in the helicopter crash area. They have also detected an "anomoly" in the area of the crash. They have plans to possibly raise the fuselage (if that's what the ano...

Re: Oil rig chopper down at sea

At the news conference, they mentioned that the survivor suits have the potential to protect the passengers for up to 30 hours. (In a later statement, they refined this somewhat in saying that based on a 30-year old male, survivability was around 24 Hours). I would think that survival could be possi...

Re: U.S. Airways Jet Down in Hudson River

Interestingly, in the most recent issue of the Transport Canada Aviation Safety Letter, author Bruce MacKinnon (Wildlife Control Specialist for Transport Canada) says that (on page 7): Q. - Are bird strikes more likely to occur to wing-mounted turbofan engines or fuselage-mounted turbofan engines? A...
