Remember kids, don't believe everything you read on the internet!
Interviewing is complete, many of whom were furloughed 705 pilots. Like many companies the key is having a good internal reference.

Re: Layoffs
To use the obvious reference, the first group of pilots that were laid off hadn't even finished their initial training and they are not being let go as if they were probationers. They will be recalled in seniority, have the option of retaining their benefits and are still members of ACPA etc. No cla...

Re: Layoffs
If the government just agreed to pay 75% of all businesses wages up to $58k why is there still a need to lay off half your workforce? As for AC pilots specifically, the bottom 600 are all on flat pay so the $58k max is basically what they'll be earning on 55hrs. This will now be covered by the govt ...

Re: Layoffs
I'm definitely in the firing for layoff, survived the first cull but will definitely be on EI if there's a second wave. Instead of arguing whether someone invested his $2.6m wisely how about suggesting good ways to save money and keep paying the bills instead of deferring mortgages (a bad idea unles...

Re: Layoffs
Its gonna be close, depending on your communting circumstances, crashpad plus cost of flights it can easily reach $600+ pm so I suppose the numbers are slightly better to tay at 55 hours. Also with EI the mortgage deferrals etc. can be used and not sure if that is an option with a 20-30% pay reducti...

Re: Layoffs
I agree this outcome is quite reasonable for everyone, however 55 hour block month for flat payers isn't a lot of money. factor in commuting and I suspect EI would be a much better option for many pilots at AC.

Hiring on track?
Hello all We hear about all these crazy hiring numbers (coronavirus notwithstanding), I think someone posted over 900 vacancies on last bid. I always hear things like hiring 500+ this year, but they never actually seem to get close to the numbers. How many have now actually been hired this year? 100...

Re: 737 to 787 Upgrade Times
The only thing we know for sure about future hiring prospects and career advancement at WJ/Swoop/Encore is that no one on here and probably in the boardroom at WJ has a flookin clue what's going to happen over the next 5 years. Accepting any job in aviation is a risk as it may disappear. The only ce...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
The reduction in class sizes is mostly due to the continuing MAX return to service delay. AC was confident it would be back this year but as that now looks nigh on impossible they have slowed the hiring considerably. Maybe Transat is a factor but not yet. As someone said its quite a long time until ...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
So...why does Air Canada tell every interview candidate they will have a decision in 4-6 weeks? They never tell anyone within this time frame. Its usually more like 3 months from people I know. I realize a few weeks over a 30 year career isn't a big deal, but why not just be honest instead of raisin...

Re: 737 max
Pheeewy, it seems to me that regardless of piloting brilliance that this accident was going to happen to some crew somewhere eventually. They may or may not have been poorly trained, they may have been at the end of a brutal 5 day pairing, they may have been having an off day. I think both accidents...

Re: 737 max
Anyone have any insight as to why the crew having activated the stabilizer trim cut out switches were then unable to manually trim the aircraft using the trim wheel? Isn't that the whole point of the manual trim wheel?
