Re: Air New Zealand asking Immigration to import foreign pil
New Zealand is a country with no pilot shortage. I've worked with experienced Kiwis across Africa and Asia who would love to be able to go home.
It would be wrong if the NZ government allowed this to happen.
Hence why the last 10 seconds of the newscast was encouraging.

7500+ hours, B737 rating (as well as another jet type rating), have flown 3 airliners + numerous smaller ones, adequate turbine PIC time, airline time, Bachelors degree, bilingual, have been applying to CanJet and Sunwing since 2010 and have not even been invited to an interview. Headed back to Afgh...

Re: When HRSDC has to chose between Canadians and Foreigners
The USA funds type ratings for pilots on an individual basis, done at the state level, through the Workforce Improvement Act (WIA). I know many guys who have gotten laid off, used the money to go to B-737 school, and eventually landed an interview with Southwest (several ended up with jobs). Which i...

Re: Sunwing to hire foreigners using the LMO method
JTF Are you saying that maybe Fasken is getting paid to post here and defend Sunwing? It would appear that way to me.... Regards, M.Jackson Fasken is a mid-to-upper level flight operations management employee at Sunwing. Fasken derives a six figure income because of this, and as such has a lot to l...

Re: Sunwing to hire foreigners using the LMO method
Gilles - I would take the recent spate of personal attacks against you on this thread and several others as an indirect compliment. I think you are having success at moving the wheels of government bureaucracy, making them aware of how the work visa program is being abused by several companies in ou...

Gilles is pointing out how if 4 Sunwing wetleases go to Europe in the summer, yet 15 come from Europe in the winter, it is hardly "reciprocity."fasken wrote:

Re: Sunwing to hire foreigners using the LMO method
I got an email from one of my buddies who was laid off by Air Transat recently. Here is the essence of what he wrote (I am paraphrasing): I received confirmation that the foreign pilots on work permits in Canada are employed and paid by European companies and pay not a cent here in Canada. I am tot...

Re: Any news on the recall of Air Transats FA's and Pilots?
Pilots probably won't be recalled to spring & summer once the flying picks up again. If people quit or take LOAs, there could be recalls. I think there were around 25 FAs recalled in YYZ for December. What is the Transat fleet plan going forward? Reason I ask is because from what I have read, the r...

Chax man, thanks for the scoop. I noticed in an earlier post you had converted to an FAA PL, this a requirement for the Afhgan work or no? Obvs a CAN company, just thinking if the contract is with US military maybe they need a US license. Not that you can talk about customers I'm sure, just curious...

If the Government of Canada agrees with that argument and allows, on that basis, these airlines to hire type-rated foreigners that pay no taxes in Canada instead of hiring and training Canadians, just to save money, and in the process, leaves the Canadians on EI, the Government of Canada is allowing...

I believe only one out of six guys type rated on the 737 got a call for an interview. This same guy then got an offer for a seasonal position with Sunwing. T. Did the guy have to do an interview or any type of selection for Sunwing? Somebody had posted a Sunwing ad thru a European contracting agenc...

Will there be 100% flow through? Will only a select number of "team players" move to WJ mainline? I heard only 1 in 4 will move into WJ mainline. What about the rest? Stuck making 80% of industry median? How about I propose a great idea of paying pilots what they're worth rather than sub par wages ...

Re: The Sunwing fleet and their pilots for the winter 2012-2
I too am quite curious about these Canadian contractor pilots. From what I have read, Sunwing has formed a contracting agency that they utilize to staff their airline with Canadian pilots. Seems to be straight from the Outsourcing & Union-Busting 101 handbook, as I believe they are in some sort of c...

Re: Foreign pilots : Creating Database of qualified Canadian
Trey Kule, That is a long winded response, let me summarize what you are saying. 1) If you’re a business and you can find a foreigner who will work for cheaper and is of a slightly better qualification then the company should be able to hire that person over a tax paying citizen of this country. No...

Of course your second language isn't as good as your first, but from what you have said, your french would meet the bilingual standards anywhere. That isn't completely true...
